Terrible service that when called out just blames the customer. Don’t bother eating here.
We went there three times. The first two times were a couple years ago and it was great. The Omakase the first two times was imaginative and great quality. So we decided to go there on New Years Eve this year. Unfortunately this experience was really bad. The service was good. The Omakase experience was about as imaginative as strip mall fast food. The cost would have been $170 per person but we did express our displeasure so they gave us the regular Omakase price. It wasn’t worth the $90 per person either but we did appreciate that they realized it wasn’t up to par. Not sure if it’s a new chef but we will not go again.

We came to Q sushi on New Year’s Eve and booked the tasting menu but upon arriving, we were told we “didn’t book” it and they were out of fish so we had to order a la carte. Disappointing but we tried to make the best of it. But then not only that, they didn’t have several menu items that we tried to order and they didn’t tell us about some of them until the end of the meal. After 30mins of being there, they did last call and we weren’t able to order anything after that even though we had only received the first couple food items. We have been here a couple times before and brought a 12pk of Miller Lite for the sushi chefs - the entire bar was drinking our Miller Lites while they continuously ignored our table and forgot to bring us items we ordered. Food is actually good, but the experience and service was very disappointing so we will not be coming back.

We sat at the bar and did the omakase for $99 per person. Two people. We have eaten sushi everywhere from Kyubey in Tokyo and Nobu to sushi go round and spots throughout the US, and of course Costco.
Food review dish by dish at the end.
Service was good. Filled our waters and tea quite quickly. A bit awkward trying to peak into our bowls, but generally satisfactory service. They also made it seem like the mochi ice cream at the end was “on the house” when it was clearly in our omakase.
Atmosphere was not what we expected. Rap music with curse words. Shots for the workers and bar folks. Not quite the atmosphere we expected, but that’s just from our experiences, it was a bit off putting.
Food wise, everything was adequate. It was a decent amount of food. The quality of the fish was okay but the fish wasn’t made to be the star. The rest of the review focuses on the food in more detail.
The biggest overall disappointment was that the fish really never got to shine through (other than being able to eat the sashimi on its own), but it could’ve definitely used a bit more plain or very subtly accented nigiris. All the dishes had quite a lot of sauces and add-ons.
Aside from that, the devil is in the details.
Some dishes were over salty such as the shrimp with hollandaise.
Some dishes had unnecessary components (black cod with caviar, didn’t need the caviar).
The omakase was also not quite what you’d expect from omakase, all the nigiri (and all their sauces) were side by side touching.
We had the following dishes (each with our one comment review):
- snow crab with wakame and cucumber salad with a broth (great starting dish, nice a fresh)
- sashimi (don’t remember the type of fish, was good but not particularly memorable)
- black cod nigiri (one piece on rice) with caviar, could not taste the caviar but the black cod was really tasty, just felt like a waste of caviar
- mushroom miso soup - really rich for miso, really enjoyable, a couple mushrooms were really garlicky which we love but be wary of that if you’re not a fan
- sashimi aside a wasabi sauce and an uni shooter. Sashimi was a tuna, salmon, and hamachi belly. One of our hamachi belly had a bone which was very unacceptable and we’ve never experienced, but we didn’t complain. Fish was pretty good. Wasabi sauce was really good though really took away from the fish. Would recommend having some with and without it. Uni shooter was too strong, we ate the uni out of it to try to enjoy it for what it is.
- nigiri dish. Shouldn’t have had all of them right next to each other with all these sauces. One fish with ao nori very similar to nori potato chips if you’re familiar. One salmon belly with a mayonnaise dish which was good but really tasted like the seared mayo salmon from Kura sushi, kind of a shame since this fish is a lot better. Shrimp/prawn nigiri we were really excited for, shrimp sushi should be fresh and sweet, but unfortunately this was just salty due to the hollandaise and the shrimp was lost. Lastly, otoro (tuna belly) was good but the garlic pickle did not add, would rather it had been on its own with the nicely seasoned rice and served on its own.
- tuna on tuna, spicy tuna roll topped with tuna, very good and as expected. Good amount of spice.
- hand roll - pretty good, not the open coned shape hand roll we expected but still pretty good it had maguro tataki.
- lastly mochi, sweet potato, peppermint chocolate, and black sesame; adequate
Parking: Paid street parking. Not overly crowded but on a more busy night likely may have to walk a block.

amazing food, bad service, weird environment. incredibly expensive for somewhere that had poor service and feels like you’re in a strip mall beside a Subway in a suburb. just not worth the hype. tried to order the chefs $99 tasting menu and was just told “no, we aren’t doing that tonight.” so we ordered A la carte (which the food was exquisite) and spent $300 for two people. We ended up having to go somewhere after for more food to not be hungry. the food was perfection but I think their level of service wouldn’t fly at your local Arby’s. don’t go and save your money

Couldn’t tell you if food was good or bad. We a table of three, waited for twenty minutes just to order drinks. While ordering another table interrupts us so they can ask for more condiments. Waiter leaves to help that table and comes back five minutes latter to continue or drink order. We asked for three waters. Waited another ten minutes and drinks still had ent arrived. The waiter that took our order was going around and filling waters at all tables after our order. Only two people needed them out of the entire restaurant. All in all waited over thirty five minutes at the table and still didn’t get a drink. We left and would not recommend again not because of food but very poor and honestly ludicrous service.

My wife and I had a fantastic dinner here. The fish was outstanding, artfully prepared but not overdone with fusion bs. Awesome vibe. Really good staff...low key and chill but very attentive. Really nice addition to the sushi scene in Chicago.

Favorite sushi restaurant in the city hands down. Staff and chef are so friendly. The sushi is fresh, tasty and generously portioned (but pieces are not too big). Went there to celebrate my birthday and had a saki shot with the chefs and our waiter. Love it!

Even if the price was $150 or $200, it would have been a great omakase experience. But the fact that it was only $100, just kisses!!

We were looking at sushi spots in Chicago, and Sushi Q caught my eye!
They offer a variety of sashimi, nigiri, and other dishes, and they also have a chef selection or omakase, which was one of the best for the value and taste we had here in the States.
The omakase had many dishes and was definitely worth the price. An appetizer, miso soup, multiple sashimi pieces, 4 pieces of nigiri, a handroll, 4 pieces of maki, and MORE were included for around $100.
The tea was also unlimited, and we had many refills. The server was also friendly and checked on us quite often. There was plently of space outside and inside.
Overall, Sushi Q has a great omakase at an amazing price point, and the food was fresh and delicious. Definitely try out their omakase!
