The restaurant was very expensive and overpriced. The food quality and preparation did not match the high prices.I wish they offered better sides than the potato chips (they were gross: burnt and too salty).After a standard tip, I spent over $30 for the sandwich and chips in the picture. The sandwich contained about 3 pieces of shrimp, a couple of tomato slices and mayo. No drinks were ordered.The staff was very friendly and attentive. Beautiful views of Chicago and the river.

I came here to celebrate my 7 year anniversary with my girlfriend. Our server was Victor and the service was phenomenal; he made our night! I definitely would recommend river roast to a friend, but more importantly, I would recommend Victor as their server. We will be back!

Had some friends from out of town come visit and we were excited to try River Roast. Sadly our server was incredibly rude. We ordered a variety of food and insisted we ordered more because "it wouldn't be enough". We felt pressured to order more food, so we did. Once our food came she didn't stop by. We were close to half way done and wanted a few things. I asked for barbeque sauce and her response in a snotty tone was "I'll see if we have any". My friend didn't even want to ask for anything else because she felt like we were an inconvenience. Food was average.

Shoutout to the manager Ernesto!! He made our experience very pleasant. He catered to our every need. Ernesto deserves a raise because he made this place 100x better. The food is ok. I ordered the lamb, it was alright. The Mac n cheese was salty. But the spinach dip was bomb. I would come back for Ernesto and the atmosphere.

The food was REALLY good. I ordered the pork belly bites, chicken & waffles, and the French toast bake. Before I had received any service I asked the hostess to move me to the table next to mine which was closest to the river. I was visiting from out of town and wanted the most out of my experience. It was a strong 'NO' . It didn't make sense considering a waiter or waitress had not come to my table yet, but no problem. She came back 5-10 minutwith a slight attitude but granted my request with the move. My second issue was they closed our umbrella while we were eating without asking. I was enjoying being under the shade and appreciate any protection from the sun especially if it's right in my eyes. My food had not made it to the table yet, and it would've been a nice gesture to ask if I was enjoying the shade before they chose to take it from me. The manager touch our table after that which was appreciated and that's where the fourth star comes in.

Wow this place really surpassed my expectations! Every dish we had here was delicious and this is probably one of the best Mac and cheeses I've had. The staff was friendly but I will warn that they make the roast chickens to order so it may take an hour to get your food! The interior was very modern as well and I can't wait for it to get a little warmer so we can sit by the river!

Just tried to book a party of 11 at this place party booker basically only wanted to sell me an up charged room of 1100$ minimum spend , asked if I could just book in regular restaurant she said unlikely I would get sat together they didn't have many tables that could accommodate 11 people , asked if that were already that booked up for 3 months out on Saturday at 2pm in the afternoon , said they could be she didn't have access to that system .... I then asked if we could find out if they are that booked up that making a reservation outside of the minimum spend would be possible said would have to check with manager and call me back . 20 minutes later she called back to say they don't take reservations that far out ... soo basically the over book from earlier was a lie you were just trying to sell me the up charge room , if I wanted to book a 2 pm reservation for 11 I needed to call back in may with no care of follow up , think I'll pass , overall disappointing experience . Lots of choices in Chicago to bad she handled it this way .

We were excited to get a same day reservation for this restaurant. The concept was very unique. When we arrived the hostesses were very kind and were even able to get a seat on the patio which we understood we would have to wait for. We were seated on the row closer to the restaurant and when a table opened up not even 5 minutes after sitting down we asked if we could sit closer to the water. We expressed that we were tourists and it was our last night in the city. Since we had yet to order food and only had drinks we didn't think it would cause too much of an inconvenience since we were just sat. We overheard the manager being rude to the waiter we asked loudly saying "no, no tell them no". If it can't be done we understand but it was that he stood not 3 feet from our table loudly speaking about us. This manager ruined our experience completely. When we asked our waitress later why we were treated this way she returned with an excuse that completely contradicted the restaurant policy the hostess stand told us over the phone during the day. The food was ok but the lamb was tough. Wish we would not have chosen this establishment for our last meal in the city. We ended our trip on a bad note because of them.
