we love roots! the pizza is so good and there is a great drink selection. went before a concert with a group and it was perfect
We've been here before. I don't remember it being so loud. The music was so loud I had to sit next to my partner to hear. But the food, as always, was spectacular.
Great in the summer. Never going back in winter. Absolutely freezing. Everyone dining had to wear hats, coats and scarves. Horrible draft coming from the door. The food is always delicious. One of the only restaurants my very picky son will eat at. Unfortunately between the temperature and insanely loud music that evening we ended up taking food to go. It was my son's birthday and he didn't even want to stay for dessert.
The pizza crust is so thin it’s flimsy.
Went here with 13 people after a kids sporting event: 7 adults, 6 kids. I understand that such a party isn't a wait staff's dream, but the kids were well behaved and the adults did all of the ordering.
The food was good: pizza, bread sticks, mozzarella sticks, fries, etc.
The service was horrendous. Incredibly slow, items clearly ordered were missed. At one point we asked for one more glass of water (we were shorted one initially) and a couple pitchers, two followup requests and 30 minutes later we got the cup and one pitcher.
The best thing I can say about our waiter is that he was friendly, but we were either his first table EVER or he should probably look into a career change.
I consistently tip 25-35% when I dine out, but in this case I do not believe he was close to deserving the 18% gratuity automatically included for parties of our size.
Overall a very disappointing dining experience from an establishment I have enjoyed in the past.

Great place for kids. Friendly staff. Never busy. Roomy booths. Build your own pizza and their homemade rootbeer is the best!
Parking: You can park on Chicago Street, but it's paid parking, and the side streets are permit parking only.
Kid-friendliness: Our 6-year-old son loves coming here for the rootbeer! The staff has always been friendly.

My husband and I love Roots. Their pizza is unique and the mozz sticks are an absolute MUST. We tried the Antique Taco Pizza and honestly I don't know that we'll ever get something different moving forward. Great staff and roomy place if you have large groups. Would definitely recommend!!!

The restaurant has a lively sports bar atmosphere, perfect for catching a game or hanging out with friends. The crowd was laid-back and it never felt too packed, so you can enjoy your time without feeling overwhelmed. Service was impressively quick, keeping things smooth and efficient.
If you're a cheese lover, the cheese sticks are a must-try. They're loaded with gooey, melted cheese, and every bite leaves your mouth full of rich, cheesy goodness. It's definitely the standout item on the menu.
However, the rest of the food falls short of expectations. While not bad, there's nothing particularly memorable about the other dishes, especially considering the higher price point. For what they charge, you'd expect a bit more quality and flavor in their offerings. Overall, it's a good spot for a fun night out, but maybe not the best value if you're looking for a standout meal.

Stroller friendly aka kids galore. As a parent it’s a great place to bring a kid. We went for dinner, almost empty besides for two other groups. The food is okay, pizza was doughy (makes sense because that’s their whole thing), and got the mozzarella sticks as a recommendation from the server. The sticks were good, almost too big but of course it’s all about what you love in a mozzarella stick.
Vegetarian options: Pizza, mozz sticks, salad, def lacking for vegans
Kid-friendliness: Loud, lots of strollers, mostly families, loud

Gone here several times. Kids love it, they'll give you some raw dough that they can play with. They don't have the monkey bread anymore (RIP) but everything else is still great. I get the spinach and artichoke dip with raw veggies, and then my kids will eat the carrots and bell peppers and ignore the dip (more for me).
Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly.

We had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Roots in West Town and had a fantastic time! The team was great to work with when planning our rehearsal dinner and were very accommodating with food restrictions and allergies (nut allergies, gluten allergy, garlic intolerance). Despite changes to their staff, Hilary was able to pick up our event details right away and jumped into helping us plan seamlessly. The rehearsal dinner itself was a success with many thanks to our fantastic waitress who went out of our way to make our day special. She kept us up to date on our bar tab and when she found out that the cake balls we had ordered were for one of our bridesmaid's birthdays, she even went and got some candles so we could sing happy birthday in style! The food was delicious and a huge hit and the event space in the back was nice and private for our party. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to come back to Root's for dinner sometime soon!

They use a weird unique kind of mozzarella on their pizza, which I find disgusting. The cheese doesn't brown well, so the top of the pizza was underdone, and bottom was well done. The slices were sloppy and wet. Too much cheese was used. I won't be coming back.
