Scarlet has become a straight bar, period: from men hitting on multiple women to being gawked at for being with my girlfriend to the music choice. I have been going consistently for three years. In the last year, this bar has not felt like a safe space for women. Scarlet is the second-to-last space for Q women in Chicago. I hope that the management will do something to correct this before the Q women's spaces completely disappear from our community.
P.S. The music caters to straight women

Scarlet is hands down my favorite gay bar in boystown. I’m sure I’m not alone in this, as the lines have been growing each year, showing just how amazing this place is and how people are gravitating towards it. As a lesbian in Chicago, I rarely find fun places that are not 99% full of men, but Scarlet somehow attracts a beautiful balance of both women and men. There are even some sapphic focused events where the bar is almost all women!
I’ve been lucky enough to find friends that I’ll have for life at Scarlet. The themed nights grant you this amazing opportunity to meet people that love the same artist or genre as you. Without them, I don’t think I’d have the community I have today.
If you’re grumpy about the lines on the weekends, just go earlier or on a different day. The lines only prove that Scarlet is the place to be because EVERYONE is welcome and is guaranteed to have fun. I don’t know any other place that makes me feel as comfortable being myself.
If you came here to complain about lines or make incorrect assumptions that this is a straight bar, I would ask you to lift up queer voices/communities rather than trying to tear them down. 🫶🏻

I highly appreciate visiting Scarlet, particularly during their Lady Gaga nights. Everyone exhibits exceptional friendliness and I would like to extend a special acknowledgement to Bryce the bartender/ DJ, Miranda, who is an exemplary host and delivers outstanding performances. Cody, Zach, and Manny are all phenomenal individuals, making this establishment my happy place, and I will always treasure the wonderful memories I have created at this bar/ club.

My favorite bar in boystown. Leans towards the closest thing to a lesbian bar, and part of why I love it so much. Great bar tenders, fun environment. DJ Cashera nights are THEEEEE best to go to. Usually a Saturday when I’ve seen her.

On behalf of all the allergy girlies... I am BEGGING yall to let go of the fog machine. It genuinely makes it hard to breath.
Restaurantji Recommends
So they wait until midnight to start letting people go in at a speed that takes forever, if you get there at 11:30 expect to go in at 1:30. If you espect a big space, give up to the line an go to Roscoes. 100000000 degrees inside. 40 min bathroom wait.
First bar i went to on my 21st. Why? Because I heard the faint sound of the Jonas Brothers playing and said “wait we HAVE to go in there”. They do so many fun themed nights and unique specialty drinks, it can get crowded but if you a tiny bit early its a cute time 🫶
