I’m surprised the ratings are as high as they are with how poor the service was for an empty restaurant, small portions, and high prices. Flavors were good, and kimchi had spice.
Honestly, would probably come again when desperate for Korean food because of its proximity but might take food to go.
Specialty Korean restaurant that offers several classic Korean dishes for a competitive price.
The restaurant has plenty of seating parties between 2-4 people.
The chicken bento box was a good value for the portions but it could've used a little more spice in the chicken bulgogi.
The service was consistent and the food came out promptly.
There is limited street parking. This restaurant is best accessed by public transit or by foot.

Update - went back a second time at 12.20pm. We were looking for a table for four, and there was a table for 2 open. Waitress said 1pm is possible as the couple at a table right next to the free table was mid meal. Then when we waited and came back at 12.45, she said 2pm and we said well the table looks like it’ll be free sooner than that. But she said no - I think because she didn’t want to push the two tables together?! Super random.
I arrived at 2.30pm, they said dine in is not possible as they shut down 3-4pm…which is not disclosed in their hours. I drove 30min and paid for parking for nothing. they should update their hours so people don’t waste time and feel disappointed.

BYOB
New find by Western and North. Lovely eatery with very limited menu and only 2 side dishes accompanying the main.
The taste was good and very nicely spiced. The size of the portions was good. The taste was very good.
I would definitely go back!

I love SGD and this new location didn't disappoint. The menu is a little different than the locations in the burbs but the food was just as good! The service was Impeccable.
EDIT: My husband and I went back last night for dinner for the first time since a year ago and the portions have definitely gotten smaller. We ordered the hot pot bibimbop and pork belly with kimchi. When we were here a year ago we loved the pork belly dish so much we were excited to get it again. This time it was mostly all onion, not all the kimchi was grilled and they gave very little pork belly and tofu this time. I left disappointed.

I was excited to try SGD Dubu So Gong Dong in Wicker Park, but unfortunately, my experience didn't meet expectations. I ordered the Beef Bulgogi Bento Box and the Soon Tofu Soup. The beef was a bit greasy and lacked seasoning, and the tofu soup didn't have the depth of flavor I was hoping for. The service was friendly, but the food didn't quite hit the mark for me. I might consider giving it another try in the future, but this visit left me a bit underwhelmed.

Went here only once but the food was great and the service timely. The portions are pretty large so you can definitely share an entree with someone.

Super great tofu soup. Great portions, great service. The waitress included a fork without me asking when she saw I wasn't nimble with chopsticks. Friendly atmosphere.

Confused by the overwhelmingly positive reviews. No part of my experience was 5 star.
The menu is quite limited - bentos, a few meats, a few soups, a few apps. Had beef bulgogi and haemul pajeon (seafood pancake). Good portion, but not very well seasoned or browned outside of the layer on the hot plate. Bulgogi comes with only 2 banchan - kind of a bummer relative to other spots that give you a bunch of variety. Pajeon was thin (I actually liked the crispiness) but expensive for how skimpy it was on the seafood (at least 1 piece had no seafood in it at all) and veg.
Environment feels takeout focused. Limited decor, harsh lighting, etc. There was an ad for LA galbi on the table but it had no price, wasn't on the menu, and our server didn't mention it.
Tea wasn't on the menu or offered by the server but I noticed there was a hot water dispenser, cups (only plastic cafeteria cups unfortunately), and teabags at a station in the dining area, so assumed it was self service. The server interrupted to ask if I wanted tea in a way that indicated it wasn't self service and that it might cost money. I didn't end up getting charged - if the tea is complimentary, tell your customers that.
Service was ok otherwise.
Another review said this place isn't BYOB but they told me it was on the phone. Didn't test that in person.

Beef sundubu soup and beef bibimbap are my all time Korean favorites flavorful, comforting, and always hit the spot. Highly recommend if you’re craving something hearty and delicious!

Petite SGD location that I think is the best of all the Chicago locations. Came here twice in a week because it hit the spot, and didn’t disappoint the second time. I’m so happy this is in the neighborhood and I’m able to have authentic soondubu in WP! Highly recommend for the food and sweet service!
