Unfortunately, the vibe is off. Came for karaoke and it was not fun.

If you love karaoke, this is the place for you and your crew. Food is surprisingly good for what it is. Bartender's are great, a handshake is what I typically order from them, but there's other options too. Make sure to tip the man in the DJ booth if you go up to sing. Have fun y'all!
The bouncer / security seriously needs an attitude check. My friends and I who regularly visit normally have 0 issues, service is great, and its genuinely a fun time.
That was until one of the bouncers got incredibly upset at my friend for bringing an empty can with her to throw away, as there were no public trash cans immediately nearby.
The bouncer then becomes incredibly agitated, stating we are not allowed in due to “consuming alcohol outside a bar”. It was 8pm, not a soul in the bar, and we simply didnt want to litter. We understand that we unintentionally were breaking a rule and were very kind to the bouncer. We apologized and showed that it was empty and did not mean any harm. He then seemed to infantilize us, saying things like “You obviously dont understand I cant let you in!” and slammed the door on us.
Not once did we argue, we were simply asking to understand. We left with an incredibly sour taste in our mouth and i’m not too sure we will be back. Which is unfortunate, we love Bonez and all the staff and karaoke! The bar was so beautifully decorated and we were so let down that we were prohibited entrance based on an accident.
It is one thing to enforce rules, which wr understand, but to be rude about it to 2 kind ladies was a bit overkill.

I’ve given Sidekicks a handful of chances because I live in the neighborhood but every time I visit, I put my name in for karaoke, wait over 2-3 hours and never get called. I too generously and put my name in early but it’s been an ongoing issue. It’s especially not fun when you watch the same people go up to sing 2, 3 or more times. Repeat names should be mixed up a little better to give everyone a chance. Server was nice and attentive but the karaoke system needs an update.

Fun karaoke spot when Bones is the DJ. We come here all the time. The DJ Tim is rude and refused to let my friend sing a song. Her name was next on the prompter and she was on the stage ready to sing and he took the mic out of her hand and said she couldn’t sing. Didn’t give us any explanation and refused to let her sing a song. Even the bouncers were on our side and apologized for his rude behavior. Tim sucks and ruined our night.
TOM and KIKI are exceptional

The staff is great and Sidekicks doesn't pretend to be something it's not.
Long wait to sing, but a very energetic crowd.

go for the karaoke stay for the onion loaf. best in the city order it the okky way
I use to like the bar that I went to today, but now I hated it…. The security at the entrance is so over rude to me and acted rude about not having water bottles with liquid water in there… and then the security told a false rumor to the person at the karaoke booth over some need me to buy a drink before singing at karaoke…. Like I’m so forever angered up to a real boiling point where I cannot take this type of false behavior anymore….. I wish this place rather be shutted down for real good!!!!!!!! Plus, I don’t like the part when it involves with only cash, when I rather wish they rather accept debit credit cards too. Cause now I feel like I don’t like Sidekicks anymore like I used to… I was supposed to be the next person to sing the next song, but now I can’t because of the security guard and his fibbing little double-crossing mouth of his…. And now it wrecked up my entire life because of them…. This time I rather want them fired, have their jobs taken away, and shut Sidekicks down for good… BECAUSE I’M SO ANGRY AT THEM FOR WRECKING UP MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! PLUS IT WEREN’T EVEN ENOUGH PEOPLE…. And Also, worst liquor prices ever!!!! I wish Sidekicks bar be NO MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE THIS PLACE IS BAD, EVIL, DISGRACEFUL AND WAY TOO SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sidekicks is always a quality choice for karaoke. Whatever you expect the crowd to be- it will pull an uno reverse on you. That leads to eclectic music and fun people watching. Drinks are more than reasonably priced, and the food from the kitchen will always hit the spot. I’ve closed this place down a time or two and am always happy to come back the next time!

This place was laaaaaame. Came with a huge group of people and we all walked in felt an awful vibe and left. Security guard was looking at my id for like 10 minutes and kept giving me weird looks. He did that to everyone in our group. There’s plenty of karaoke bars in Chicago. Skip this one.
