I’ve tried the pierogi, the breaded pork, among other things multiple times….the friendly owner always delivers. Cute, quaint, little restaurant I found out about because of the television program, Check, Please! Just like the panel of reviewers, I love this place. Check it out!

It was closed! Went for dinner at 6pm. On May 5 and it was closed, looked like not open for weeks? A neighbor of place was near by, so I asked about it. He said it's been closed for months! And their website says nothing about closure. We called too and had to leave VM. No return call... Very odd.
My family of 8 (6adults/2children) went there for lunch today for the first time. The gentleman behind the counter started clearing a large table off for us. He did it haphazardly, and never finished. My husband completed it. There were dirty dishes on other tables as well. We waited for 20 minutes while he hung around the counter, looking at his phone and drinking something. When my daughter went up to ask him if we could order, he mumbled yes, but never gave her the menus. He just kept staring at her. She smelled alcohol on his breath. We all noticed that he was slurring his words and she saw that he was drinking a White Claw. He was unsteady and inebriated. We left immediately. So disappointed, as we had read great reviews and were eager to try the food. We won’t be going back.
Biggest pet peeve when a restaurant says they are open and then are not open when they say they are. Drove super out of my way to this place just to find they are not open at lunch on a Thursday despite what their hours say and with no explanation. Luckily, them being closed led us to find Smakosz on Lawrence, so I have no need to frequent Smak Tak now.
A perfect place to sit down for some tasty, homemade Polish food. You will not go away hungry!

Came in today and had an amazing experience. Service was fast and friendly, food was amazing. I live in Texas but will definitely be returning just for this gem of a restaurant.
Food was OK. Pork Cutlet reminded me of dark times of communism when lunch ladies from our schools cafeteria used to steal meat deemed for kids. Our Schabowy cutlet was a mixture of razor thin, battered to oblivion meat drowning in tons of Panko. This one was a exactly the same bring in a flood of bittersweet childhood memories. Dear owner If I ever want to reminiscent about eating 2 lbs of oily panko I will take a short trip down memory lane instead.
Great food and plenty of it. Will be back when in the area.

Ok. Wow.. absolutely five star food. This is the food your Polish Grandma will make you if she REALLY loves you. Like.... Clear favorite. And it's decorated like her basement. But it's served to you by your bitter uncle who resents never marrying and instead he takes care of his ailing parents. But lemme tell you. This place is the the shiznit food wise. Will make your entire body feel better. The Silesian dumplings are incredible. Like mochi made from potato. The potato pancakes are addictive. Even the coleslaw is better than it aught to be. I'll be back for sure.

The authentic Polish food there has always been delicious and plentiful! We have been going there for decades.
Good Polish food at nice prices. It is delicious!Update:Why are they closed during supposedly open hours?Maps says open, sign on door says open...but it was locked and dark. 3 times in a row!
Loved the food. My only regret is that we didn’t eat there (I picked up)—the place is amazingly and perfectly old world. We had the stuffed cabbage, hunters stew, and Hungarian pancake. A little pricey but worth it—everything was so good!
I live on the Lakefront, and the drive here is shorter than you think. And well worth it! I came here for lunch and ordered today’s special: soup and pierogis. So incredibly delicious!! I told the owner/server(?), for his recommendation as to whether I should get the borscht or the mushroom soup. Let’s say the borscht was incredible. And I haven’t had such delicious pierogis in decades. For take-out I chose the mushroom soup this time. I also asked him, “pork cutlet or sausages?” The cutlet is fantastic. I definitely 100% recommend SMAK-TAK.
