Small Cheval- Riverside

If you're short on time, this was a perfect spot to try Au Cheval. Did not disappoint. No wait time. Hamburger and fries were delicious. Great location, right beside the Riverwalk, perfect!

Limited options with hamburger, cheese burger, fries and shake. Great quality meat and taste in the burger!

The fries were quite tasty! They seemed to be made of potato, instead of mashed potato.

The chocolate shake was pretty much like drinking chocolate ice cream.

Au Cheval and Small Cheval are great. However, this small Cheval on a Saturday afternoon missed the mark. Service was slow and the food runner (person organizing the food) was quite rude. My burger was undercooked and rare in the middle which is hard to do since they’re thin smash burger like patties. I plan on going back, just not to this location.

This place has great fries at $4.99 bc they are just crispy enough on the outside and inside it's great too bc it was hot and soft. The thickness is just right. They give you heinz ketchup plus special mayo on the side. They have hamburgers and drinks and the menu is simple. I love it bc you can just pick from a few good items and not think too deeply about what to eat. And it's a cute size and enough seats...and ppl take out a lot too. The ambience is excellent bc it's right on the river. And you can walk downstairs from the restaurant and you will pass through a beautiful lobby (see pics). This is not a big enough place to accommodate a party of 20. But for intimate gatherings of 2-6 it’s doable. And a lone hungry person will enjoy a view w good fries and a burger. Plus they give you free cold water and plastic cups. You could also bring your own bottle or cup to be kind to the earth.

Kid-friendliness: Nice staff and it’s fine to bring kids. They were nice and gave us a Small Cheval sticker for a 7yo. See pics.

Small cheval has excellent juicy and flavorful burgers but the fries are extremely salty even when asked to remake it with less salt. It took away a lot from enjoying the meal. The white cheese sauce was salty but really delicious and high quality. Salted caramel shake and ice cream are very creamy!! Some staff were very friendly and some were not so much.

Came around 2pm on a Friday, the place was pretty quiet but the burger came out fast. Same great cheeseburger as any other Small Cheval location I’ve been to, convenient location to the loop.

This is my favorite burger in Chicago, and this newer location definitely keeps up with the rest of them! Burger and fries are always so wonderful and I totally recommend! Truffle cheese sauce for fries is also to die for!
