the new staff is so aggressive, has huge egos, and makes the entire experience so uncomfortable for everybody there. been coming here for 5 years and im fully done with it. theyre constantly yelling at everyone right in their faces, refusing to actually speak, always trying to kick people out for any reason. specifically this new short filipina woman who spends her entire shift fighting people. the small white guy that often wears kilts, grabbed my friend so hard one time it left marks on her wrists. the environment is HOSTILE. another friend got kicked out recently because it was super hot, crowded, and the security kept yelling at us in line for the basement for an hour, so he threw up from overstimulation. they told us they wouldnt move the line just to spite us. he was fully sober & coherent yet they immediately kicked him out. didnt even check to see if he was okay. also ive never been to a club where you have to wait in line just to wait in another line to get inside the club. just keep the basement or make metro area actually enjoyable to be in. ALSO ive been overcharged on things multiple times & you have to double check each time because the bartenders purposefully do it. so many things wrong with this place i could go on.

some of the most rude staff i’ve encountered at a bar. while the music is great the staff’s attitude is way too much. replace some of the existing staff and it’d be a 5 star but unfortunately too many stories from other people as well.

I feel so lucky to be able to live in the same city as smartbar— while every party there is a party worth going to, I have to say my personal favorite has always been Queen!

With resident DJ’s Michael Serafini AND Derek Carter, a good time with great music is always going to be guaranteed. Plus!! Kelly is the best bartender not just in Chicago, but perhaps the world :) And shoutout to the entire security staff for keeping us safe while keeping the vibe high.

I have found community here, and I have found myself here. I love you so much smartbar 💖

Was absolutely great until they kicked out my friend. It’s very dark inside, and she took a half step stumble down from the dancing section to the bar/bathroom area and IMMEDIATELY security was on us kicking her out. I appreciate kicking people out when they’re too drunk to function, but it’s insane to kick out people who paid both for drinks and a cover for a slight misstep? I’m pissed about the experience. Won’t be returning.

Great bar for house music. Love how intimate it is - great sound quality. LGBTQ friendly.

$20 cover and a $10 drink go a long way; I had a great night dancing at smartbar. Music=great. The vibes were wonderful and other guests were respectful- I will be back!

My funny little shy coder metalhead French cousin from the country was afraid he'd have to dance, but after the fog machine filled the whole place with stank and the vibes sunk in he was shaking his back like he had ass in his pants. I showed him everything, but this was his favorite memory. Thank you forever, smartbar

We went Friday, June 20, payed $30 per person for the show and whatever they had wasn't even music. Listen to it yourself. It was awful. At that price they should get actual DJs.
