Food always fresh. Staff always welcoming. Be on time or you will wait to be seated when the remaining party arrives. Drinks were top tier.

This was my first time at the restaurant. It was my 55th birthday and it was amazing. From the time I walked in the energy was great. The staff was as friendly and welcoming and they told me Happy Birthday as soon as I walked in. My server was a wonder. He explained the menu and recommended some great choices. I will be back. This is where the Beautiful Black People Go .....

The sides were good, I had a salad and their burger and they were okay, didn't stand out. Their sides however were great!

We headed to The Southern Chicago to celebrate my fiancé's 46th birthday, and I couldn't have picked a better spot. If you want a meal that feels as big and special as the milestone you're celebrating, this is the place to be. The staff (Anu, Rich, and the amazing doorman) went above and beyond to make him feel celebrated from the moment we walked in, but the food truly stole the show. The Birthday Feast The Tomahawk Steak: The ultimate "birthday treat." This massive cut arrived with a stunning presentation that turned heads at nearby tables. It was seasoned to perfection with a deep, smoky crust and a melt-in-your-mouth center. It's a serious piece of meat for a serious birthday. Lobster Mac and Cheese: We are picky about our mac, but this was decadent. It was loaded with huge, tender claws and knuckles of lobster. The sauce was silky and rich—the definition of comfort food elevated to a fine-dining level. Brussels Sprouts: These were the perfect salty-sweet balance. Crispy edges, tender centers, and tossed in a glaze that kept us reaching for "just one more". To toast the occasion, he had the Old Fashioned and I had the Smoky Magnolia. His drink was stiff, classic, and balanced—exactly how a celebration drink should be. The quality of the bourbon shone through, and it paired beautifully with the richness of the Tomahawk. All in all, everything is ALWAYS exceptional!

Their dinner service is painfully slow. This is not a place that you want to go if you have a planned show or event afterward. You can't plan how long the food service will take. Our server on the other hand was amazing.

I'm tired. Tired of trying new places and upping the experience and being disappointed. Service now-a-days is just blah. Our server was terrible at description of menu items. Kitchen was super slow. Food was cold. We even let the server know we like our food piping hot. My friends plate was and mine was room temp. Asked for fresh mashed potatoes and took over 20mins. By that time my salmon was ready to go home. Super disappointed. Flavors are on point. Drinks were amazing. But when food is served cold and cost that much I expect more. Prob won't be returning. Up your hosting game guys. The place is super cute. Played great music. But service was mediocre. And I was observing other staff. Drink tasting at the bar with straw. Standing around bar. One server picked her tooth while waiting for a drink to serve and didn't even wash her hands before touching. Just gross.

The restaurant is beautiful. I love the the environment, very warm and inviting. The staff is pleasant, the food was very good overall. However it took us about 10-15 mins to be seated with a reservation, it took our server 20-30mins each at a minimum to take orders for drinks and then appetizers and our main course. What should have been an 1hr30min reservation turned into almost 3 hours. No blame to our server. He was sweet and apologetic. The kitchen was severely backed up. All the servers were waiting in the hallway for food

The best restaurant in the South Loop. From the moment you walk in, the space is absolutely beautiful very high-class and thoughtfully designed. You can feel the intention behind every detail.bThe food was a 10/10. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly executed. The Strawberry Kale Salad deserves its own moment so good, I'm still thinking about it. The overall experience was exceptional: great atmosphere, great energy, and food that truly delivers. I genuinely enjoyed myself and can't wait to return in February. Highly recommend.

Our experience at Southern Chicago met our expectations. The food was flavorful, well seasoned, and presented beautifully. The only issue was my salmon was a bit overcooked and the pour of wine was less than the standard, especially given the price point per glass. The servers were knowledgeable and well trained on the origin story and food selections.

First time at Southern Chicago. Dined there to celebrate a birthday. The half branzino and the parmesan mashed potatoes were a-m-a-z-i-n-g! Super delicious desert of chocolate cake and brown buttered ice cream. Very attentive service. Cozy, yet elegant atmosphere. Soft music playing in the background but got a little louder during dinner. Appreciated the lower volume for conversation purposes. I have shared my experience with family and friends. I will definitely dine again!

The ambience was great with dim lighting. The food was very good and our server Niya (or Nadia) was REALLY excellent. I appreciate not having to drive all the way to the north side of the city to have a wonderful fine dining experience.
