As someone with a life threatening wheat allergy, I appreciate S-R's care and attention to gluten-free dining. It's SO delicious! And the servers are SO kind and attentive. And the atmosphere is SO great! It's a very special place, and we hope to see it reimagined toot sweet.
We waited over 90 minutes for our food. The food itself was fine but the service was slow and the server acted like we were an inconvenience. Initially, we were told that we couldn't order coffee before our entire party arrived. Bizarre experience.

Probably the best fried chicken we’ve ever had. The gluten free option was a game changer for us with sensitivities. Brussels sprout casserole 10/10, matzo ball soup 10/10…oh and that biscuit. Let’s just say I’ll be dreaming about that for the next week. Service and atmosphere was friendly and inviting. Fun cocktail selection too. We will be back!

The fried chicken was pretty good - very crispy exterior, you could taste the buttermilk brine. The white meat was great, and paired well with the gravy. I liked the biscuit with maple butter too.The pineapple habanero reminded me of a hot sauce bottle I’ve had. I didn’t think it paired that well with the chicken. My biggest issue was the size of the chicken was pretty small. One dish didn’t fill me up. Wish they served 3 portions and made the price a bit more expensive to accommodate that.

I visited Split Rail on a Saturday, October 28th, 2023, around 11 am for brunch, and it was an experience worth sharing. Despite frequently passing by this place, I had never stopped in until now, primarily drawn in by the allure of their renowned fried chicken. The first impression wasn't ideal as the restaurant was relatively quiet, and the host's instructions to order at the host stand before being seated felt slightly inconvenient. Notably, I was disappointed to find out that to receive full service, I had to sit at the bar due to my recent decision to quit drinking. However, the food quickly turned my mood around. We ordered the chicken wrap, latkes, and two over-hard eggs. The chicken wrap was a standout, surprisingly excellent despite its simplicity. The latkes, although initially appearing overcooked, surprised me with their perfect taste and texture – a crispy delight that exceeded my expectations. Two pieces of the fried chicken were a definite highlight, with a crunchy breading and juicy chicken.I must give a shout-out to the staff, particularly the person who brought our food. They exuded positive vibes and seemed genuinely happy with their job, making the dining experience more enjoyable. Even when I commented on the latkes' appearance, a server who wasn't assigned to our table proactively offered to make it right, a heartwarming gesture.Although I couldn't catch her name, she had a short haircut, dark hair, and was mixing drinks for other customers. The team at Split Rail clearly consists of individuals who care about their customers' experience, and this is what sets this place apart.Unfortunately, my only gripe was the absence of our assigned server. I had to request drinks several times, and their attentiveness was lacking. This detracted from an otherwise fantastic experience. In summary, Split Rail is a hidden gem with exceptional food and a staff that genuinely cares about your dining experience. I can't wait to return for dinner. To the owners, please ensure that the two exceptional employees who went above and beyond get the recognition they deserve. It's a testament to how you run a successful establishment. While I would love to give it five stars, the absent server prevents me from doing so.

It was an amazing experience and I'm glad I brought my friends and my girlfriend there. lighting was phenomenal (there were real candles) and the service was just absolutely amazing. The people there were so kind and they brought My friend biscuit because the food was taking slightly longer than expected. They're very efficient . If there was ever a mistake, it was remedied quickly and very politely. The environment was just as welcoming as the staff but also calming and the ambiance was just spectacular. They had a great wine selection and a great menu. I'm very picky about my fried chicken but they allowed me to make adjustments and it came out delicious and moist. 10 out of 10 and I'm totally coming back!
really good flavors. i was expecting the fried chicken for 1 to be bigger, but flavor did not disappoint and it was pretty filling with a side that was shared with my partner. the burger was delish. the 'everything but the movie' cocktail was really nice!
I was very nervous going into our reservation as I was told that for our group size ( 8) the only reservation options were chefs tasting (versus ordering directly from the menu). We have various dietary restrictions, so I was really unsure how this was going to go. The chef confirmed all dietary restrictions upfront and they brought so much food that was all delicious. We didn't know what to expect, but everything we tried was incredible and everyone had only amazing things to say about what the chefs picked for our dinner. everything was amazing! We will definitely be back!
Split-Rail had some very good fried chicken. The pieces are pretty small which is my biggest complaint about the dish. My wife got the salmon and it was pretty amazing. Don't bother getting the fried black eyed peas because both of us thought they were pretty bland. The cocktails are great!

We went to this place because we had seen it listed as a top place in Chicago for burgers. We went on a Friday evening at 6:00 pm and tried to order burgers, but they said they had run out. Wow. A burger place that had already run out of burgers by 6:00 pm on a Friday. Sounds like poor planning/ management to me. Very limited menu. We had the chicken for two which was pretty good but our friend couldn't find anything on the menu he liked.

It was my first time visiting this place. I was impressed and enjoyed my visit here at Split-Rail. They have incredible offers of meals, drinks, sandwiches, and more. Their menu is huge and they have plenty of food options. They even have vegan options for those customers who are on their diet. All the food here was absolutely incredible. Made to order and perfectly cooked. Their cook is definitely professional and works for the longest time. I can tell because of the smell, plating, and especially the taste of the food was absolutely done by a professional person. The food was organized and creatively served. I ordered their Nashville Hot Lamb Ribs, Matzo Ball Soup, Gluten-free fried Chicken, and an heirloom tomato and fries for the side dishes. Everything here is delicious and amazing! Worth trying! I loved everything I got. This place is phenomenal! Everyone can easily visit them because their location is accessible. Their place is also huge and they have a parking lot. Very convenient spot. Perfect for special events and occasions. Definitely a place to go and bring your friends or family. Split-Rail is a spot for everyone! Wonderful place with such amazing customer service. Their staff was nice and accommodating. They all know how to treat the customers professionally. They also talk to customers politely. Great customer service! I would definitely go back again here when I am nearby. Split-Rail is now my new place to go! Thank you for a great experience!
Incredibly food and wonderful service. Was happy to learn that it's a nut free facility as my husband is allergic. There was a bit of confusion on our end as to what the service fee actually was for. There was a QR code where you could learn more but the info was pretty vague. We ended up tipping beyond that because our server was great and wanted to make sure that they were getting tipped. Because of this it ended up being kind of expensive but overall was worth it due to the great service and how good the food was.
Split Rail continues to be a go to spot for me and my husband. I'm Celiac and they have the best gluten free chicken I've ever had. I would recommend for others with celiac or a gluten allergy.
Food was great, service was great. 20% surcharge plus 20% gratuity (because I’m not going to *not* tip, but was tempted to go lower), means I won’t be back. Breakfast for 2 shouldn’t cost $75 at a casual joint like this. I’d honestly be fine with 10% surcharge but 20% is taking the piss.

After an hour and a half of waiting for our food and asking our waitress about our food we found out our order never went through. A good waitress and manager should have wondered why we never got our food but not here. We got a whopping $3 off our $200 bill. No brunch should have taken 2 1/2 hours. Also the place was not very crowded at all. I would never recommend this place
