I honestly need to come here more often because I live so close. Sun Rey Café is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Chicago. It’s Black- and Filipino-family owned and operated, with great service and even better food. Highly recommend!

Came here on a random morning breakfast date with my husband based on good reviews and being walkable to us, and we were blown away. A cute family owned and operated business with incredible food that is clearly made to order from scratch. Everything we’ve had in our now multiple visits has been piping hot and obviously freshly made. With that being said, food may take a minute to come out but it is so worth it. Family is super friendly and hospitable, the food is incredible, we can’t recommend this place enough! Banana fosters French toast is incredible and as a southern girl I really appreciate some real grits made with cream.

Sun Rey Cafe is an excellent local breakfast spot. Quick and friendly service. Our server always made sure we had full cups of coffee. The food was the star of the show. The Manilla breakfast was my personal favorite, the eggs were perfectly over easy, the Logganisa sausage was outstanding, very happy I tried it. The garlic rice it came with was unexpectedly great and paired great with the runny egg and sausage. The pork belly Adobe was equally delicious, the Adobe seasoning was rich and savory, the meat was cooked just right with some crunchy bits on the end. The Sante Fe hash was so flavorful and was a great breakfast skillet. Overall everything we ate was so delicious and I cannot wait to return again.

The food was great! I had the breakfast fried rice and it was amazing! 🤤 The service is a little slow and because it is a smaller place it felt crowded. I dont think it took away from the atmosphere and was still able to have a nice conversation.
