We ordered online and got it to go. Popcorn chicken was pretty good, as well as the Taiwanese sausage with garlic. Also tried the brown sugar boba with sesame cream which had a solid black sesame flavor and well cooked boba. Everything was pretty good.

I’ve only ever gotten takeout/delivery from here but the braised pork and the milk tea are both incredible. One of my favorite meals in Chicago for a while now.

The food itself was excellent — we ordered the braised pork over rice, and it was one of the best version of the famous dish I've tried. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the staff’s attitude, which was shockingly poor. They seemed visibly irritated whenever we asked for anything, offering no smiles, no greetings, and acted as though we had somehow offended them just by asking for something.
To make matters worse, this is one of those places that prompts you for a tip before you’ve even had a chance to see what kind of service you’ll receive. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tipped anyway, but in the end, I felt shortchanged.

Taipei Cafe is truly great! I had their signature braised pork over rice—it was tasty, well-portioned, and reasonably priced. The girl at the front counter was super friendly and kind, which made the whole dining experience even better. The place is cozy and quiet, definitely somewhere I'd love to come back to.

Got popcorn chicken bento, and basil chicken bento. Both came with fried string beans, white cabbage and an egg. Popcorn chicken, white cabbage and eggs not bad. Do recommend ordering by itself.
Following is my recommendation for the restaurant to improve.
1. I wish there were an option to have steamed string beans instead of fried string beans. The fried string beans are also way too salty.
2. Rice is hard and dry, it seems like it's been cooked for a long time. Would not recommend the rice at all.
3. Basil chicken is totally out of this world BAD. It is way way way too salty. It would get no star if only rated this one item. There is no basil flavor. The menu says it's three cups of chicken and it is 100% false advertisement. It is more like sweet and sour over salty teriyaki chicken. Worse than Panda's chicken. Please change a name or make it right.

Worst staff I’ve ever met. It was like we owed her a million dollars….. not coming back
I usually enjoy coming to your store — your drinks are always great! I haven’t visited in a while because I recently moved, but I stopped by again today.
The drink was still delicious, but I felt disappointed by the staff’s attitude. The person who took my order didn’t smile, seemed upset, and spoke in a way that made me feel unwelcome.
Just wanted to share this so it can be improved in the future. Thank you.

A little bit of Taiwan here in Chicago.
They're known for their bento boxes and beef noodle soup. Both tasted good, but nothing overly special. I wish they had cut the bok choy into smaller pieces for the beef noodle soup and at times, the popcorn chicken can be a little salty.
The food comes out relatively fast (10-15 minutes). They do have quality boba and teas.
There is limited seating inside, so to go orders are common. There is a restroom inside.

This is where I go of I want that authentic Taiwanese dish taste. Good food in general. Bubble tea can be improved.
