I've tried all of the highest rated sushi spots in Chicago and Takibi absolutely takes the #1 spot for me. It's everything you want from sushi ... fresh and delicious ingredients prepared in front of you by an expert in his craft. The head chef is incredible and their sense of hospitality is amazing. I ordered the sashimi set with rice and soup for $40. Some of the fish tasted great; the salmon, white tuna, and scallop. However, the others were pre-salted and tasted flat (not fresh). The vinegar rice was okay; it had a hint of spoiled taste to it. The miso soup was pretty good, but could use a bit more salt. Overall a mediocre experience compared to Lawrence Fish Market.

I love Takibi and have been coming here for a few years. Living right around the corner helps of course. It’s a small and simple yet quality restaurant and you can tell the owners are passionate about sushi and giving customers a good experience. The food is always so delicious and I love that they’re BYOB. It’s the best place for a date night and a bottle of wine or to take a couple of friends to catch up.
