Mediocre food that was extremely overpriced.
Looks like any other sushi place. Got a friendly welcome. Sat right away. There were only 2 tables, surprisingly. The renegade craft fair was happening.
Nice small menu selection. Sushi was good. Surprised the nigiri was so overpriced. But was good. The lunch special was interesting. The fried rice tasted like black pepper, missing a lot of seasoning, didn’t finish. The hibachi chicken was salty, missing the habachi flavor. Service was scarce.
If Salmon Truffle Roll has a million fans, then I am one of them.
If Salmon Truffle Roll has ten fans, then I am one of them.
If Salmon Truffle Roll has only one fan, then that is me.
If Salmon Truffle Roll has no fans, then I am no longer on this Earth.

I love Salmon Truffle Roll till my last breath.
Die-hard fan of Salmon Truffle Roll.
Salmon Truffle Roll supremacy
We had dinner here last night and it was delicious!!! We ordered the Fish and Chips as a starter and two of thier maki rolls, Fresh Wasabi and Spicy. Highly recommend both and the starter!
I have been coming here for 10 years, and I will say that since Mike sold the place a year ago, the dishes are not quite as good as they used to be. I have brought no less than 20 different people here over the years and I just wish the rolls were as good as when Mike used to make them. Maybe the kitchen can revisit with Mike about how to make them up to his standard? I don't know, I've been spoiled by his dishes for so long that maybe I just have a high expectation now. I also miss the 80s music they used to play! Now it's just classical boring elevator music - and they painted over all of our signatures on the wall. :( I'll still keep coming here but I'm really hoping that they can zero in on some of the special rolls and make them as well as Mike used to.
Consistently excellent, fresh and beautifully prepared sushi! Also love the relaxing atmosphere and great service.
It has always been 5 star experience until tonight, when the sushi place allegedly ran out of tuna, their chefs claiming it's a normal nowadays in the industry. Unfortunately Mike wasn't there this evening; would like to hear his opinion on it! I won't be back any time soon, at least not until the industry figures out the tuna shortage!
The special rolls were absolutely delicious. We tried 3 different ones. The soft shell crab was the best I've ever had. Will be back.
Amazing sushi and byob......fun date night or any kind of gathering as well as if you are by yourself!
We LOVE Tanoshii and it’s the only sushi place we go to in the city! Amazing sushi, fabulous staff, and they are always accommodating with our kids who’d love using the “kid chopsticks.” Please don’t ever change a thing, love this place!

One of my favorite Sushi places in Chicago. Stop here for lunch or dinner if you’re in the area! Everything from the quality of ingredients to the service is phenomenal.
Great service. Delicious special rolls and fish and chips!! Would highly recommend!
Not the best experience here last night. Took a long time to get seated or even acknowledged that we had arrived for our reservation. Took a really long time to receive service and my wife felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff by being there. Not a great feeling for her birthday dinner.
"Sushi Mike" has, our server confirmed last night, retired and the food here was not the same. It's decent and everyone was very friendly, but it's not the excellent sushi that it used to be. Sad to lose a neighborhood gem.
Delicious food and a calm, relaxing atmosphere. The music is quiet and soothing, the staff attentive and the food is exquisite. Will come back again for sure.
