How does a torta, a quesadilla, a huarache, and two sapos come to a total of $140? Because this place charges a hidden 20% service charge for parties of 4 or more (we were a party of 4). This place asks for tip before you have an opportunity to see the receipt. That’s not the way to treat customers if you want them to come back. Also, the carne asada was too salty. 0/5 do not recommend.

Beware: they will charge you an extra 20% service charge and trick you into paying an additional tip. They do not show an itemized receipt and instead give you the card reader displaying the tip page. When confronted they lied and said they told someone in our party (of only four people) about the extra charge. Go to 5 Rabanitos down the street instead—they have better food and honest service. There are several other reviews from customers who experienced the same thing.

Nice food that’s why I only come back, but the service is awful. I’m never regret to pay gratuity, but I have to stand up from my table to order an extra taco. I needed to call the other waitress to order something to go, she told me that later she can take my order. She just ignored us after 5 minutes my waitress took my order. At the end, they charged me with the gratuity, even though it was a terrible service. There was only my table of four people and another of two. No wonder it was empty recently. I’m seriously moving just To Go orders.

It was my first time visiting the restaurant, my first impression was the cleanliness of the place, everything is extra clean, the sugar bowls, the salt shakers, the staff very attentive and patient, They give you your time to decide the dish you want acquire. The delicious food, the fresh salad and the delicious coffee, I really liked the place and of course I will return very soon.

Beware of the extra service fee they charge you automatically for parties over 4 people (we were 5). Other restaurants usually charge you for parties over 6 and we didn’t know, even though it’s written in their menu in fine print. It’s not fair. They also don’t show you the check, they just hand you the square card portal and ask you for tip. We ended up paying almost $30 in tip!! Their restroom is the smallest bathroom in the city and probably the dirtiest.Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible, a couple of stoop stairs to get in.

Stopped by for a quick dinner, Food came out pretty quick. I had a torta dinner with carne al pastor, and two corn tortilla tacos de cabesa and tripas. Wife had the 3 taco dinner. The "dinner" option comes with rice, refried beans, and salad. No not a top salad or a cesar salad, just lettuce, onion and tomato with lime juice. The refried beans had great authentic mexican flavor, which paired perfect with the rice. Al pastor is savory and tasteful with a hint of sweetness(like all pastor should be.) The cabesa de res(beef head)was ok, needed a bit more flavor. Now for the Tripas(tripes) they were actually pretty good add a squeeze of lime and ask for them to be "bien doraditas"(extra crispy) you'll thank me later. Over all a good place for a street taco fix or a nice evening dinner. $70 for 2 adults 1 kid.

I did not have a good service experience here, my colleague and I were visiting with our kids, I asked if we could have separate checks. This was a Tuesday in the late afternoon, they were not busy at all and our waitress said no. My friend gave me cash and I put it on my card. The food was good, not exceptional. When it came time to pay I was told my total without getting a bill, I swiped, it asked if I would like to leave a tip and gave suggested amounts. I left a tip, she asked if I wanted a copy, I said yes and tossed it in my purse, it struck me as a bit high but I figured it’s because it’s Chicago. At home I looked at my bill, they added the 20% as a service fee and then my tip as well. I had no intention of double tipping, I called, no manager was there, they said call in the morning. After I called back and informed them what happened, she said the waitress should have mentioned it but technically doesn’t have to because it’s written on the menu. She did admit it that most people miss it, I explained that I was used to that for larger parties of 6 or more. Not 4 people on a slow Tuesday. She said I could go in and she would refund me the second tip, I asked for her to mail me a check since I live several hours away. She said no, I explained then I would have to go through my bank, which I did because I felt the whole thing was quite shady. It was a huge waste of my time and I will not go back because I believe many people have been double tipping unaware.

First time here in Chicago and we spotted this place do to another Mexican restaurant being closed. Looks we appealing the food smelled great, however when we stated that one of the drinks weren’t to our liking our waitress sent a gentleman that came to our table who might’ve been the manager. He approached our table in an unprofessional manner. He didn’t even seem compassionate to satisfy us. He came back a second time and walked over to our table with the same drink that had a horrible taste and said the drink wasn’t bad. Then he gave us a mean-glare and said something under his breath as he walked away. Really sad that do to drinks and bad bedside manner’s you’ll risk your business to flourish. I don’t live here in Chicago but y’all have horrible service and two they add the tip to your ticket without consumers consent! I can go on with more complaints but I don’t think it’s worth it. I will just warn you, Consumer beware…..
