We frequent this place and it never misses. I usually will get their tacos - which are all amazing, but the al pastor and birria are my go-tos here. The chicken tortilla soup is *chefs kiss* especially for colder months. Everyone is super nice and service is quick. I’ve gone with my sister a few times who has Celiacs and can’t have gluten and they are very accommodating. Nice patio out front for warmer months.
Came with some friends, and the food was delicious. We ordered tacos de asada, pastor, torta de milanesa, torta de asada. Per our server Alberto recommendations we ordered the margarita de guayaba (it was delicious), margarita de pepino, and margarita de limón. I recommend all drinks and the food we had. Our server was amazing, attentive and had great recommendations. This is a hidden gem worth going, too.

Had lunch here right before seeing a movie, and the food was awesome! I'm pretty picky about Mexican food and was wary bc it's in a trendy spot, which often times can be style over substance, but was pleasantly surprised. Service was prompt and friendly, and the flavors in the chicken quesadillas and Mexican rice were excellent, especially with the house hot sauce (no Tabasco or Cholula here!). Spiked horchata was delicious. The only slight critique would be that the chicken was quite oily, but otherwise amazing.

I have enjoyed my experience at Tecalitan. The food was delicious but they gave my cousin a huge serving. They gave her four quesadillas and it was in the KIDS MENU!! That is a little much if you ask me. Our server Beto was very nice and funny. I finally have no complaints about the server for once. Ever since they moved last year it became generic. It no longer felt authentic. Plus, this location is very hard to find. My aunt drove past it like twice. ( Which was totally not her fault.) Over all I have enjoyed my experience at Tecalitan. Thank You😁
Took us at the end of the night and still gave great food and service!

We should have turned around when we walked in and the place was empty. $81 dollars for two burrito “dinners” which includes a scoop of dry, cold and somewhat crusty beans and some rice. A soda and a cocktail. The chicken burrito was full of said dry, cold and crusty beans and a hint of chicken. Just awful, with all the Mexican restaurants in this city don’t waste your time.

The price for 3 tacos was far more than others partake of the city, but the food was good. I was iffy because of the reviews. The tortillas were good, the meat had flavor. The salsa was good too. One was spicy, the other mild.

I have been eating at this restaurant for over 30 years. Well worth my time for the 30 minutes drive. The food is just fantastic... you get so much, I always have to take some home. I have brought my family and friends in Chicago and out of town they totally enjoyed the visit. Try this location right off of clybourn you will NOT be disappointed.

I ordered chicken soup, but I couldn't eat it. The soup was too vegetables big and undercooked. I'm disappointed with this.

$40 for 3 happy hour items - ouch! Service was fantastic so no complaints there, but will only be coming here when I’m flush with cash.
The whole experience was one big meh. The place was pretty empty, which only highlighted for me how bad the service actually was. Spent 15 minutes waiting to order. They didn't ask about kids drinks. I started to leave after my drink when I realized we had already been there about 20-30 minutes. I should've followed through on that. The food came out 20 minutes later, all at once, even the kids' food. My appetizer came out after the entree and was luke warm (clearly forgotten... it was soup). The food was okay, it probably would have been more enjoyable hot and if the service was better. It took more than 10 minutes for them to come back to collect my payment after I asked for the check. I know because I was watching the clock for the parking, which I had to pay for because they made me late. That 10+ minutes i spent waiting cost me an extra $14 in parking. If I had known that when i finally paid the bill, i would have subtracted it from the tip. Spent about an hour and a half there with just me and 2 kids because everything took so long. I won't be back.
