First time in Chicago eating at the Gage. The food was excellent starting with the meat & cheese platter, entrees of chicken fried lobster and fresh halibut, all cooked to perfection. The service was absolutely amazing, super attentive and efficient! I highly recommend this restaurant while visiting Chicago.

The Gage: A Memorable Culinary Stop in the Heart of Chicago During our recent stay in Chicago, we had the pleasure of dining at **The Gage**, and it turned out to be one of those rare finds that truly delivers on all fronts. Located just across from Millennium Park, the restaurant blends historic charm with a modern, welcoming atmosphere — ideal for a family dinner where everyone feels at ease. From the moment we arrived, the service was smooth, attentive, and genuinely professional. The staff struck that perfect balance: friendly without being overbearing, efficient without rushing us. They handled our dietary needs — including gluten-free options — with confidence and care, which is something I always appreciate when traveling with my family. The food was excellent. Each dish was flavorful, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully composed. We all found something we loved, which isn't always easy when dining with children. My child was happy with their meal (a small victory!), and the adults were equally impressed by the quality and creativity of the menu. The ambiance was another highlight: lively but not loud, spacious yet cozy. It's the kind of place where you can actually enjoy a conversation, feel well taken care of, and savor the moment. I especially appreciated how the staff made us feel welcome without any pretension — just good hospitality, done right. 💬 In short: **The Gage** is a reliable, delicious, and family-friendly spot that I'd gladly return to. A wonderful discovery in downtown Chicago.

Lovely spot for a cozy, romantic anniversary dinner. It's our 1 year, and my wife and I adored the Gage. The ambiance really made dinner feel special - dark lighting, private tables, and luxe decor. The food was incredible, both visually stunning and well-balanced despite the richness (not that I'm complaining, the chicken roulade was incredible). Ate my whole plate without feeling over-full. Our waitstaff were attentive and understated, making sure to quietly clear the plates and offer some suggestions for their extensive wine and cocktail list. The one-two punche was excellent, and my wife appreciated the killer martini service. All in all we had two cocktails, three appetizers, two mains, and a side dish all for under $200 in the heart of downtown Chicago. Having a lovely cocktail and meal hit the spot after walking around the art institute for two hours, and after dinner we had enough energy to stroll around Milennium Park for twenty minutes. Absolutely worth the money - I would have paid 2× more and still felt it was worth it.

Wonderful dinner on a Sunday evening; we ate outside - which was OK, as privacy was good, though noise level from the street was high

I've been to The Gage many times and have never not loved it. I was torn between three equally appealing options so my server helped me decide on the bavette steak salad which was phenomenal. Overall, such a delightful experience.

Outstanding food and top-notch service--attentive but never intrusive. The restaurant is dark, if that matters to one. The booth seating is unusually comfortable.

Jake is a perfect profesional waiter, food was innovative and delicious, ambiance was elegantly casual.

EXCELLENT from start to finish! We started with the whiskey braised pork poutine which was plentiful and delicious. It was SO good. The Prime Steak au Poivre, Coconut Curry with chicken, and tuna poke special were all tasty. The coconut curry was spicy, so make sure that you can handle spice if ordering it. We finished with the Profiteroles. They were like an ice cream sandwich that had a wonderful caramel chocolate sauce. Troy was our waiter. He was attentive and kind. Great Chicago restaurant.

The experience was very positive. It's very close to the Art Institute, so for us it was a great location. The service was great. The Lobster Roll and the Avocado Toast were great. It seemed expensive to us, but it is Chicago, and we're not from the big city.

The only complaint is that our food came out all at once. We ordered salads and our entrees at the same time. We figured salads would come out first. They did not. The ribeye and scallops came out with the salads. It was fine. Everything was prepared well, just would have liked a gap.

The Gage consistently serves quality, well prepared and attractive dishes. The service isvery attentive and the white tablecloth ambience is friendly and upbeat. Their salads and sandwiches can't be beat.

Were disappointed the venison burger ( our favorite) was off the menu despite being shown on the website.. Wedge salad was ok. Fussiloni pasta entree was very bland and had almost no vegetables. Waiter never checked back to see if we liked the entree. They didn't charge us for the pasta but we were disappointed enough that we went elsewhere for an entree. Not the Gage we always looked forward to visiting.

Loved the shrimp cocktail! The patio is romantic! My ribeye was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The whipped potatoes are delicious. The staff is attentive. My husband enjoyed his grits. You won’t be disappointed.

Good menu, great ambience. Nice service. We were late by 20m , so lost our table. But got an alternate outside after a wait.
