This is the worst snapper I've ever received in my life and it seems like they should've never even cooked it in the first place, how can you sell someone something that looks like this, I paid for a snapper but received something that looks like they broke it apart with their hands.

Mukase was a disappointing experience. As Ghanaians in Chicago, our dining options are limited, which makes it even more disheartening when a restaurant falls short. The service was unwelcoming, and the food did not meet expectations. I ordered fufu with palmnut soup, but the soup was more like stew, and the fish was extremely dry. It was an unfortunate experience that left me with instant regret.

I truly hope the restaurant takes customer satisfaction more seriously. Even with limited options, we want to support Ghanaian establishments in a positive way, but that becomes difficult when quality and service are lacking.

Drove all the way to the location only to find a sign saying they had moved. Tried calling the number provided, but no one answered. Completely wasted my time.

I was eager to try some Ghanaian food because I hadn’t gotten some in a while
I googled and this restaurant showed up because i specially wanted Ghanaian cuisine. I got to the location only to realize they had moved I called to complain. At least some accountability would have done it.
Whoever answered the phone hanged up on me. I basically spent $78 to come and leave this location with nothing
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone
Maybe they have good food but their customer service is -10000000

It saddens me to have to write such a poor review on a restaurant I loved for years. However, my most recent experience has driven me to such and I will unfortunately never spend another penny supporting this business.

I live about 2.5hrs away in Madison, WI but I frequent Chicago every few months for concerts and other leisurely activities. I almost ALWAYS stop at Mukase on Wilson avenue on my way home to buy their egusi, jollof and fried plantain. Most recently (late August) I treated my father to a weekend in Chicago for his birthday and attempted to do the same. We had dinner reservations at another restaurant, so I placed an $80 order (for myself, my mom and a friend) at Mukase and took it back to the hotel to store in the mini-fridge. As I’m condensing the items to fit into the fridge, I open the plantain container to find badly burned plantain. They were black and smelled like smoke. I immediately call and speak to the receptionist (the owner who I usually interact with was at their new location) and politely explained that I was unhappy with the plantain as they had been obviously overcooked. She tried to gaslight me into believing that was how they make them. I quickly informed her that not only had I been eating their food for years and have NEVER been served burned plantain, I have eaten fried plantain in enough countries to know better. I am not an uncultured American. She then offered to refund me if I returned. I explained that I had a boat tour and dinner plans that evening that I needed to prepare for, but I would return the next morning before heading back to Wisconsin. I ended the call and continued putting the food away. I open the jollof container and it smells scorched! Like straight charcoal. At that point I’m pissed and decided that I would take it all back the next morning. I didn’t bother calling back because I, again, had to get ready for my dad’s birthday activities.

The next morning I returned to Mukase with all of the food and politely asked for a refund. I explained that both the plantain and the rice were burned and she (the same receptionist who I have never met before) began to argue with me, saying that if I had an issue with the rice then I should have told her when I called the day prior. That obviously is beside the point and would not have made any difference. I show her the evidence and she refused to look. She instead took the food (proof) and threw it away. I asked to speak to the owner and was told that she was not available in-person. I asked her to call her and she obliged. However, she only lied to her and refused to allow me to speak to her. The owner instructed her to refund me. She did.

I was so upset by the lack of accountability, level of poor customer service and pure disrespect. I attempted to call the owner at their newest location myself to explain the situation. I didn’t want to give this business a poor review. I just wanted an apology. She answered, said she was busy and would call me back. Over a month later and still no phone call. So here is the honest to God truth.

Good food. Poor customer service. People will come for the food for sure, but if you don't fix customer service it will hurt repeat customers.

Food was great we ate in but not sure if they have indoor seating as it was arranged as if they only do takeout but accommodated us to sit down to eat inside.

We did pick up during the day, so I'm not sure what the dining would have looked like during service, but it was a little weird to walk in and see an empty room save for a drink cooler and the ordering counter. But the food was to die for, the portions super generous (I got 3 meals out of my entree), and the cashier was very warm and friendly.

Ordered Waakye shito with goat meat and Fufu. It was amazing. The portion sizes are enormous so I will have leftovers until tomorrow.

We ordered Kenkey with fried fish and fried yams with turkey tail. They were absolutely delicious and had an authentic Ghanaian taste!

My favorite part was the pepper sauce and shito that came with the food. They transported me right back to Accra, where I visited 10 years ago.

While I thoroughly enjoyed every bite, the restaurant lacked indoor seating. There's a lot of empty space that could be a great dining area. Luckily, the food was perfect for a picnic, and Foster Beach was the ideal spot.

We didn't order online ahead of time, but our order was ready within 15 minutes. I was excited to exchange a few words in Twi with the staff.

We'll definitely be back next time we're in the city to try more of the menu!
