We ordered salmon. It was undercooked. Food took over an hour to come in. Bread spread took over an hour and a half (appetizer)
Drinks came late due to receipt malfunction. The server was sweet and apologized but no manager came to apologize or talked to us as the server told us a manager would speak to us. But no manager came to apologize or any accommodations.

Was passing by and saw the cool atmosphere and wanted to try it! The vibes and decorations are super cute! However, since the moment we sat down at our table, service was not up to par. We waited over 6 minutes just for water and to be greeted by a server. We then got water by one server who didn’t introduce themselves, but she did take our drink orders. We then waited for our two drinks for 15 minutes. During that time, another server came without introducing and said what would we like. We explained we ordered and they went to the bar to get it. We asked a few basic questions about the menu and the server was not very knowledgeable. The service was very far and in between. Never checked up on us between courses. Once our entrees came out, the server never came to check if it was all okay. I did not get the happy hour burger I ordered and it was missing ingredients I asked for. We also got an extra broccoli that we didn’t order and they were not happy once we told them. We had to go to the hostess to get ketchup and pickles after waiting for our server to come once the food was dropped. We then had to go back to her to get the check and some boxes for our food. Saw our server boxing after tables food but the boxes were just given to us. We were really excited when we walked in but overall would never go back. The service ruined the entire vibe. The hostess was very kind and helpful!

I booked a reservation on 1/28 for 2/13 specifically so my coworkers and I could enjoy The Whale’s heavily advertised happy hour. When we arrived for our 5:30 p.m. reservation—during their advertised 5–7 p.m. happy hour—we were not given a happy hour menu at all. Instead, we were handed a completely different dinner menu than what is displayed on their website.
I asked to speak with a manager and explained that nowhere on the website did it say happy hour would not be available on 2/13. His response was that because it was a “holiday weekend,” they “physically do not have the product” to make the happy hour items. I then asked, “So you don’t have the product to make the cocktails?” He was clearly caught off guard and admitted they do have the product—but it would only be offered at full price.
The manager made no effort whatsoever to accommodate us. No apology. No explanation that made sense. No offer of an appetizer, discount, or any gesture to acknowledge the inconvenience or appreciate our business.
I worked in restaurants for years before becoming an attorney, and I was honestly dumbfounded by how this was handled—especially given that:
1. The Whale’s website on 2/13 and 2/14 said nothing about a special Valentine’s Day menu.
2. The happy hour promotion lists no exclusions such as “holiday weekends.”
3. Their Instagram post on 2/12 was actively promoting happy hour and stated “Friday 4–7pm.”
We ultimately left and spent our money at a neighboring business. Completely disappointing experience and incredibly poor management response.
It was a Friday night dj playing music 🎶 and a lot of conversations going on parking a mess

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Whale in Logan Square, specifically because of a bar back named Victor. While I was sitting at the bar, he made inappropriate, sexually suggestive, and arrogant comments toward me that made me very uncomfortable. I tried to brush it off, but he kept coming back and continuing the behavior.
What was even more disappointing was that the bartender lightly laughed instead of shutting it down. No woman should feel uncomfortable just trying to enjoy a night out. The behavior felt unprofessional and completely out of line.
Management seriously needs to address this. Customers deserve to feel safe and respected — not harassed.
