Excellent hand ground beef burgers (including turkey), delicious milk shakes and malts plus crispy fries. Catfish and patty melts, too. Decor like a 70s rec room basement couldnt be more appropriate for this S side staple. Only downside is no desserts.

They've been open for 80 years. Food is still great and the prices are beyond affordable.

Me and my family came here for lunch yesterday. I got the patty melt and it was very good, the french fries are also superb. The milkshakes are good aswell. Overall this is one of the best places to eat in the south side and I reccemend it to any locals or tourists.

I came here with a friend. I tried one of their beef burgers and their fries, and both were delicious. I also chose grilled onions on mine, which were also delicious. I've seen other comments say the fries are homemade – I can tell! I really appreciate that it didn't feel like I ate anything heavy after eating.

We were craving authentic diner food and tired of preformed burgers and seriously processed meats so we tried Top Notch Beef Burgers on the recommendation of a friend. She ordered a Corned Beef Sandwich on rye bread served cold, with jalapeño jack cheese on the side and mustard. The corned beef was flavorful and tender, and the cold preparation worked perfectly. Simple but satisfying, although they put the cheese on the sandwich. The ¼ Ib Beef Burger Deluxe came with fries, raw onion, lettuce, tomato, and pickles--upon request no mayo-on a regular, non-toasted bun, as requested. The burger was juicy and cooked well, and the fresh toppings added a nice crunch. The fries were golden and crisp. This was a great classic combo. For drinks, we tried three large 24oz milkshakes--banana, Oreo, and vanilla. Each was thick, creamy, and rich in flavor. The banana stood out for me! Overall, it lived up to its name--Too Notch burgers--good quality food, generous portions, and great flavor across the board.
