We went with friends and only had drinks on the patio. That being said, we had a wonderful bartender and will definitely return for dinner. The atmosphere is certainly friendly and inviting.

Loved our Dinner at Topo Gigio!!! Such a great spot! The vibe was super cozy and welcome, and the staff were all really friendly. We kicked things off with the Caesar Salad and Calamari soooooo good! Every pasta and entree we tried was packed with flavor and cooked just right. Honestly, we enjoyed every bite. Definitely a place we'd come back to!

Make a reservation no matter what they tell you!
We called ahead for my dad’s birthday, but the host insisted we didn’t need one because they “weren’t busy.” An hour later, we arrived to find the place packed—except for two open tables we were told were reserved. No one sat at those tables the entire 1+ hour we were there.

When we explained the mix-up, the host had nothing else to say and brought over another staff member (not a manager) seemingly for backup. He told us the only option was the bar, which wasn’t possible since my grandpa can’t sit on high stools. When we expressed frustration, he abruptly said, “Well, now we’re not serving you.” My dad asked for a manager, and the same staff member called someone, then returned saying there was a table available, waving us off with “yeah, whatever” when we thanked him.

The food was good, but service was slow—we waited over 15 minutes before flagging down our server to order. Overall, a good meal, but the handling of reservations and customer service was unprofessional and disappointing.

It was just okay. The food was a bit bland and seemed like it had been sitting.

Food was outstanding but our waiter was a complete jerk. Older gentlemen who seemed like he didn't want to be there. Do better.

This place was recommended to us and it was recommended to make reservations as well which we did. They have a 15min grace period as well. We arrived and food and atmosphere were great. My only complaint is the service specifically the waiter. It felt like he was rushing us and I understand he was probably under stress but he was also a little rude. We asked for separate check and he replied “we don’t split checks,” then just walked away.

We were thrilled to finally try this spot — the reviews said it was a cozy Italian restaurant. Turns out it’s actually a fast-casual fine dining experience… emphasis on fast.

We waited 30 minutes for food, and then got asked if we were finished… while still eating our first appetizer. Before we could make a dent in our entrees, we were asked again: “to go?”

Clearly, chewing must look like a sign of being done here.

Nice food, charming setting — just wish we had time to enjoy it without feeling like we were on a countdown clock.
Next time, we’ll bring a stopwatch — just to keep up.

Rating is close to 4.5. Sat outside which was lovely.
Food was very nice but the portion sizes were obscene which resulted me in eating too much and feeling bloated leaving. The atmosphere and vibe was decent, the server was pleasant and not overbearing. Overall pretty happy.

Food was great. Service was poor. Waiter was slow and we felt neglected at our table.

Topo Gigio is one of my wife’s and my favorite Italian restaurants—not just in Chicago, but anywhere in the country. We’ve had the pleasure of dining at some of the top restaurants across the U.S., and Topo Gigio stands proudly among them.

What sets this place apart is the combination of consistently delicious food, warm and attentive service, and a surprisingly reasonable price point. Whether you're enjoying a classic pasta dish or exploring their daily specials, everything is prepared with care and authenticity.

The atmosphere is welcoming without being overly formal, making it perfect for both date nights and dinners with friends or family.

If you're in Chicago and craving Italian, Topo Gigio is an easy choice. I highly recommend it!

This is a SOLID Italian spot in Chicago. Small neighborhood place. Large servings. Very crowded and very LOUD. The people at the table behind us were literally shouting. But through all the chaos they managed to to provide great service. The food was solid. Tony (our family foodie) loves the conchiglie Alla sarda. I ordered the Apollo Fiorentina and husband ordered the Voldostana which has a wonderful creamy mushroom flavor. We also checked out the upstairs event space.
