It’s all in the details! From start to finish everything about Tortello was excellent…The Focaccia, the fennel salad, the carbonara, the wine. 🍷 Everything was authentic down to the old family photos as wall paper in the restrooms! I loved watching them make pasta in the window! The owner shared that his father was from Venice and his mother was from Sardinia. When he was old enough he moved to Dubai, London and the U.S. He said he always want to have a restaurant… just one that he could perfect, and to do it “right”. And that he has done. I can’t wait to go back. When we left the line was out the door. Grazie Mille 🇮🇹🍷

The pasta dish was quite fresh, but the prices do not line up with the experience. If I’m ordering at a register with just a food runner dropping off my food and getting exactly four tortelli, $25 for the plate is absurd. Either increase the portions, decrease the prices, or change the format— something’s gotta give.

Doesn’t take reservations and does not update the website or Google maps when it is closed (despite saying to check google for holiday hours). I had been really excited to go here on Valentine’s Day, did a bunch of research on restaurants, arrived and there was a paper sign on the door saying they had closed at 4 for an event. Should have been updated on their website or Google maps. Super disappointed.

Tortello is an absolute gem, and our experience there was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm smiles and a friendly, inviting atmosphere that instantly made us feel at home. It’s the kind of place where you can tell the staff and shop owners genuinely care about their customers and take real pride in what they do.

The highlight of the visit—without question—was the mac and cheese. Calling it “flavorful” almost feels like an understatement. Every bite was absolutely exploding with flavor: rich, creamy, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly comforting without feeling heavy. You can taste the quality of the ingredients and the attention put into making it just right. It’s the kind of dish that sticks with you and has you thinking about it long after you’ve left.

What made the experience even better was the people. The staff were kind, attentive, and more than happy to answer questions or offer recommendations. The shop owners themselves were incredibly nice and welcoming, which added a personal touch you don’t always find. They clearly care about both the food and the people they serve, and that energy really shines through.

Overall, Tortello delivers amazing food paired with outstanding hospitality. The mac and cheese alone is worth the visit, but the friendly staff and kind owners are what truly make the place special. It’s a spot we’d happily return to again and again, and one we’d highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and an even better experience.

I had been to the restaurant in the past and really loved the food, but it had been a while. I picked out a few dishes and my first reaction was the portions were kind of small for the price, and I think that is just because discretionary income isn’t as good for most of us as it used to be. So anyway, then i took my first bite of one dish and it completely transported me to my one and only magical trips to Venice, where I was awestruck by the beauty, and simple, yet highest quality food. I tried the other dishes and was equally blown away by the flavor and quality. I am thankful we have such a fine, and authentic taste of Italy here to enjoy. Keep up the good work!

By the way, if you are ever going to visit Venice I highly recommend going in February or off season. The crowds were really light and I was told they were having historic bad weather there w flooding of the canals, wind, and even some snow flurries. For all the hoopla about the weather being bad it paled in comparison to a crappy Chicago Winter Day.

This restaurant has the best Italian cuisine I have ever eaten, hands-down! Every appetizer and main dish was cooked to perfection and had exquisite flavor. This is the third time I’ve dined here and the quality is consistent every time. Tortello is very busy and the noise level is moderately loud, but that would not stop me from dining here again in a heartbeat at any given opportunity. The staff is extremely attentive, efficient, and knowledgeable regarding the menu. In addition to the food, the wine and the coffee are also second to none! Take the time to speak to the owner, Dario, if you have the time. He has a such a touching story about how Tortello began. We got a photo with him this time.

First time here and it was amazing. Pasta was fresh and the best I have ever had. The tiramisu and the Nutella donuts are a 10/10 recommend. Owner was super nice and accommodating as well.

I came here on a Friday around 12:30pm. We could not make a reservation and it was an order at the counter service. I went with my partner, overall good pasta, al dente of course.

We started with the focaccia and ricotta with honey. It was sweet but a delicious combination.

I also got a glass of wine but it wasn’t given to me so I had to ask for it from the person passing the food / expediting.

I got the Aglio, olio e peperoncino, it had chilis and cheese with olive oil. It was good, simple but good.

My partner got the Cacio e Pepe which he says was tasty and better than most food on Division. He also got a macchiato which he also had to ask for because it was not delivered.

It’s pretty good pasta.
