I remember the chirashi and the nigiri, both of which were spectacular. I remember my girlfriend and I for the longest time searching for an authentic, fresh not-overhyped sushi restaurant in the city… this one always hit the spot.

I ordered a to go order in store. Ramen and spicy tuna. It was 30 minutes before closing and service was sloppy. I didn't receive my spicy tuna roll. Nor did I receive a spoon to eat my ramen.
Great Japanese spot - stopped in with a group of 6 for a quick dinner. Enjoyed the tonkotsu ramen and a few sushi rolls as appetizers, along with a few apps. Service was great!

I walked in at 5 and got a table immediately but the restaurant filled up quickly. I got the mexicana roll and a half roll of surf and turf. Both were melt in mouth amazing. The lychee martini was also very tasty. The staff was very nice. Looking forward to my next visit.

The food was good. Ordered the sushi omakase but the server could have explained which each piece was.

My husband and I went here for the first time Friday night, our first time in Chicago. It was so good that despite all the restaurants in the are, we went back Saturday. Food was delicious, service was great.
I had don katsu. It was okay. Waitress was nice but the other staff treated us a bit weirdly. My friends had the sushi rolls, which they liked so I might have been unlucky with the food. But regarding the service, the staff didn't really treat us properly while we were waiting for our table to be ready.

This is really sad for me. Umai has been the staple food I always go to whenever I feel down or even celebratory. Unfortunately, the katsu kara quality plummeted... The pork was bone-dry and smaller than before. The seasoning was off. We also ordered the chashu don and the quantity was smaller than before.
This is disappointing... Look, I get that inflation is making things difficult but I hope this isn't the pathway Umai is heading towards...
Disheartening to be honestly...

The server was very nice, but we did not think the food was very good.
I got a pork chop over some extremely overcooked rice with no vegetables and no flavor .
The naked sushi had way too much of a sauce that did not taste very good .
The third member of our party got some kind of a noodle dish that was not flavorful.
Two of us have stomach aches .
Wow.

I and my friend went during the week so not too busy. We got seated in a corner. We ordered appetizers at first. They seemed disappointed like we were being judged for not ordering more. Even though we were. We were just deciding. Then we order a roll and Saki. The saki come and people are seated. We drink our saki, the people who were seated ordered and got their food. We still has our saki. People around us got water refills. We just had our saki. No roll. We waited for like 20 mins. No roll. I go to management and tell them we feel discriminated because we have been ignored. We were the only Hispanics there. Everyone there was not. I felt discriminated against and ignored. The worst feeling ever. The roll never came and we paid full price for our meal. No discount for our inconvenience or service.

We got the surf and turf roll and the Umai Crunch. The fish tasted fresh and the rolls were both flavorful.
