I did not love Ummo. My first choice wine selection and main course selection were out of stock. Reason code: It was a really busy Saturday. Deduction: For full enjoyment of Ummo, don't come a day before Wednesday. Recommendation for the house: Close on Mondays and Tuesdays like every other restaurant if inventory is an issue. Aside from that, were the best servers off tonight too? The serving team was nice enough but did not aid in the enjoyment of my meal. The service was relatively slow on a slow night. Would've loved to leave more than the 18%, which wasn't warranted. However, it would have been unconscionable to leave less. Honestly, the whole experience gave “Factory Outlet,” but at the standard outlet price point. Someone on staff positioned their trench on a ledge behind me. It would have never been appropriate (leave it back of house), but possibly unnoticeable during the hustle and bustle of a super busy evening. May try again on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday for the Lamb Tortelli.

We were so disappointed by our experience at Ummo, and for all the wrong reasons. The appetizers here are far better than the entrees, with a very basic pasta menu. Our service was spotty with very irregular check ins. We had a reservation upstairs after dinner which they cancelled five minutes before our reserved time, 9:30 PM. Had we known this would happen, Ummo would not have been our restaurant or neighborhood of choice for the night. To make matters worse, the manager who came to inform up that our reservation was cancelled was unapologetic. No concessions or drinks were offered for the inconvenience, and we were told our table was needed for another reservation. For the amount we spent on 6 entrees, appetizers, and multiple bottles of wine and drinks, this was a very disappointing end to the night.

We had a great time! Very trendy. Very noisy. Portions were on the smaller side for Italian food, but it's also River North. The octopus was great!

There was nothing special about this restaurant. Food was mediocre, staff was ok, ambiance not as cool as the vibe portrayed in pictures.

so great. My cherry dessert was out of this world! I already love the Torelli. Always try to bring friends here to experience this restaurant. Must come!

Overall, we had a really good experience as a family of four celebrating my daughter's birthday. The service was excellent and attentive without being overbearing. Overall, we felt that the food great but was rich with few dishes that veered from this. Most of the side dishes /vegetables also contain some sort of a rich element and I do wish there was a bit more in the way of simple fresh sides which would compliment. We had the prosciutto, meatballs, burrata, and the arancini which were all excellent. The only flaw there would be the tomato foam that comes with the prosciutto which was a bit of a miss. The Caesar salad is very non-traditional with a buttermilk Caesar dressing and spring greens. I loved its anchovy forwardness but again very non-traditional. The branzino was excellent and came a whole and deboned which made it easy to eat even though it was whole. The cacio e. Pepe was rich and satisfying. Truly felt like high-end Italian, macaroni and cheese. The pasta was handmade and perfect texture which I really enjoyed. The chicken Florentine was quite good but I found it a bit salty. Mole Capellaci was really interesting and was a great dish to share between the four of us. The complete miss for the evening was the carrots. They said they were roasted but they really came off as very mushy and along with the cardamom puree to me came off like baby food. The asparagus was excellent but was also rich with a sauce. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse which was excellent and came wrapped in gold with hazelnuts and lots of interesting stuff on it and was like a Ferrero Rocher. Coffee was also excellent. We had old fashioned and espresso martini which were excellent.

As a frequent diner in River North, Ummo had been on my list for a while. I hesitated to visit after hearing mixed reviews and seeing dishes that looked more gimmicky than appetizing. Still, I wanted to give an honest take for anyone considering a visit. Ummo is undeniably beautiful—nestled between lively bars, its sleek, modern decor feels upscale and boujee. That's what you're paying for. Unfortunately, the food doesn't live up to the ambiance. We started with the prosciutto, which came with burrata and a gazpacho. The pairing felt off. The burrata was delicious on its own, but the gazpacho didn't complement it, and the “crackers” turned out to be flaky filo dough—another odd match. For my entrée, I ordered the cacio e pepe. The pasta itself was high quality, but the dish was overwhelmingly peppery to the point of being unpleasant. My friends had the chicken alla vodka pasta and were surprised by how spicy it was, especially since the menu didn't mention heat. We ended with the cherry dessert, which was visually stunning and clearly designed for Instagram. But beyond the presentation, it was just okay—not something I'd order again. Overall, I don't recommend Ummo. It's an overpriced spot that leans heavily on aesthetics and exclusivity, while the food itself is average at best.

The food was amazing. The ambiance and decor really set the tone for a nice meal and good conversation. Loved the fact we could see into the kitchen and watch the food be prepared. For it being downtown the value and quality of the meal are perfect. You are getting your moneys worth.
