Congee was my favorite item there
In a city full of great food, Uncle Mike’s is by far my favorite restaurant in Chicago. Everything is perfect.

Uncle Mike’s in Chicago is not just another breakfast diner. It’s a portal. I walked in one morning, threw on some Tagalog hard rap in my headphones, and suddenly my stomach and my soul were on the same flight to Manila—with a too-short layover in Chicago.
The food? Incredibly unique (at least to most white bread Americans like me), which honestly feels like a shame since the Philippines is one of the most populous countries on Earth and its food is still underappreciated here. The dishes are filling in that comfort-food way, but they also have this soul-food magic that can flip your whole mood around.
I'll be honest, I didn't eat it all. Some of these tastes were hitting me for the first time and it was just a little bit too hard to wrap my mouth around. But I enjoyed everything, and found it both unique and sensational.
Every plate felt like it has a backstory, maybe even a personality. The flavors punch, hug, and sneak up on you all at once. It’s the kind of place where you go once and immediately start plotting your return. Because yeah, you’ll want another plate—but also because it’s not just food. It’s a whole experience. And sometimes, experience is the thing that makes us feel alive.

We visited from New York and were really impressed by this local Filipino spot. The warm lugaw starter was comforting and set the tone for a great meal. We had the skirt steak, pork chop, tocino, and longanisa—all cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The side of champorado was a sweet, nostalgic bonus.
Happy to support a place serving up such quality, home-style Filipino food. Definitely worth a visit!

My girlfriend and I stopped by for breakfast, and we’re so glad we did. They welcomed us with Lugaw (rice porridge), which was absolutely delicious. She ordered the Filipino breakfast combo with Longanisa and Tocino—both full of flavor and perfectly cooked. I went with the breakfast combo featuring pork chops and a 6oz skirt steak, and it did not disappoint. The service was warm and attentive, and the food was even better. Highly recommend

This place made my heart so happy. We had two combo plates and one was torino and longanisa, the second had fish and pork chop. We have never ate so quietly and so fast. Food was just amazing. Ok services every one was nice. Waiting time for us was none. The food arrived in record time. Tasty, fresh, absolutely home made feel. We were impressed and happy and definitely in our top five list! As usual we ate so fast that forgot the pictures but plenty from others. 😁 3 stars for atmosphere and is not related to the restaurant but the customers, baffles me that people be so loud in shared places like a restaurant!

Great spot to start the day! The steak is delicious and the rice was a nice surprise in how nice it went with everything. Recommend getting the 4 oz skirt steak combo. Staff was super friendly and made us feel welcome.

The appetizer soup was delicious 😋 the coffee was very strong, half and half and sugar were readily available. The meals were large and portions were fair. My steak was a little chewy but my eggs and rice were cooked perfectly. Overall, a very pleasant meal.

Stopped by after a morning bike ride. Was incredibly hungry and Uncle Mike hit the spot. Food was tasty - my only knock was the steak was chewy & hard to cut. Service was good - attentive, but forgot our toasts & never returned to refill our water. Atmosphere was OK - just super close tables. Overall, worth a thumbs up and a good review. 👍🏾
