I had the pleasure of dining at Liberation Kitchen recently, and I was absolutely blown away by the quality of their food. I tried the **Updog**, and it was nothing short of amazing!

The Updog meal was not only delicious but also felt incredibly healthy, which is a rare combination to find. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and it was clear that fresh, high-quality ingredients were used. The dish had a creative twist that made it stand out from anything I’ve had before.

The atmosphere of Liberation Kitchen was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Whether you're looking for something tasty, nutritious, or both, this place is a must-visit. I can't wait to go back and try more from their menu!

Not going to lie… those are the best vegan donuts I’ve ever tried. Absolutely love the flavors. My fav one is the eclair one. Btw My bf who’s not vegan also said those are one of the best donuts he ever ate.

Went in today with low expectations but let me tell you, this place is a gem. The cooked food is nostalgic Chicago style with a vegan twist. The donuts were hands down the best I have ad (vegan and non vegan). Will be going back. Lucky to have this place close to home! Also love their pre-packaged vegan products which were a great deal compared to a retail store.

Besides the Bacon Mac, everything else I tried here was eh… The seitan in the other sandwiches wasn’t seasoned enough and the flavors weren’t great. Otherwise, the staff were very nice and the food came out fast. It seems like most people do takeout here, but they have a couple of small tables in the back to dine in for small groups of 1-3. There’s also a sizable pop-up arcade at the back of the restaurant The prices are generally pretty reasonable (except for the $5 tiny cup of unseasoned steamed kale).

Food I tried:
- “Chicago Style” Italian Sandwich (3/5): Normally I love seitan, but I didn’t love the texture or flavor of the seitan here. The sheer quantity was overwhelming and it wasn’t seasoned well, so the flavors were very monotonous. I liked the soft bread, but that’s pretty much it.

- “Chicago Style” Updog (3.3/5): The order comes with 2 Chicago-style seitan hotdogs. I preferred these over the Italian sandwich flavor-wise because you could taste more of the other ingredients in it besides just the overwhelming flavor of seitan.

- Fried Bacon Mac (4.3/5): This was definitely the best out of everything I tried. It’s not too creamy or “cheesy” in texture, but the flavors are good and umami. These seitan bits had way better seasoning and flavor compared to those in the sandwiches.

- Greens (3/5): Nothing crazy, just a small cup of lightly salted steamed kale. Pricing it at $5 is a little excessive though.

I’ve been to liberation kitchen a handful of times and really appreciate their mission and extensive vegan donut selection! Absolutely love the For Greta (strawberry cream donut) and the Flapjack (vanilla donut, maple frosting, spiced chocolate crumble) especially. Got a day-old donut deal for 6 donuts for 10 dollars which I thought was a pretty great deal for vegan baked goods. Maybe a little dryer than I would have liked but that is to be expected with day-olds!! The flavors and the frostings especially were still incredibly delicious. Also highly highly recommend their cookies!! We got a large chocolate chip/oat cookie and it was AMAZING. Also has a fun selection of vegan candy bars which I hope to try more of! Have had their food in the past as well, which even my non-veg family enjoys😄 Updated from previous review on 2025-01-11

Great food and folks. Having raygun playing over the speakers was quite a welcome thing too. Spots like this make me want to move back to the city. Please let me know if you open a location in the western suburbs.

I love the energy of this place: super friendly service and great food. The doughnuts are insanely delicious, but the salty dishes are also worth a try.
