The food and service were amazing! It was our first time dining here, and the staff took great care of us. The ambiance is beautiful and makes it a perfect spot for a date night in Wicker Park! (:

September 2024
Our dinner was a bit rushed. The waiter made several comments about how busy they are making us feel uncomfortable.
Food was average with the beautiful presentation. Lamb vindaloo was super spicy, almost inedible, and butter chicken was the best!
Poor wine list.
All three cocktails were on a sweeter side (we were not sure what the hoopla is about the bar in this place).

Parking: Difficult to find parking.

Canceled my reservation 2 hours before the time without any explanation. Just cancelled in Tock. When i called to inquire about what happened, was told that due to a plumbing issue, they had to cancel some reservations that night. Same night they had a special event. Seemed a little fishy to me. We had heard good things, but won’t be making another reservation to find out.

Good food and cool vibes. We had a few entrees that were heavier dishes but they didnt feel that way which we loved. The curries were all great and flavorful. The prices are very high in my opinion compared to other high end indian restaurants ($30 for a large portion and $15 for a small portion).

The only enjoyable dish was the kulcha. Chaat had no flavor. Entrees also lacked depth of flavor, no spice or salt. Extremely poor service as well. Do not recommend as a restaurant. Not much variety in the menu either. Additionally, we were sat at backless high stools (meant for the bar) for a sit down table service that made it difficult to eat. Server saw the difficulty and asked if we wanted to switch to backed chairs. He switched out all 4, then undid the switch for 2 of the chairs.

Absolutely delicious food. I took off a star for the false hours. ***They open at 5pm*** NOT 4pm. You can walk in at 4 but they refuse to make food until 5pm.

Vajra Restaurant offers a 5-star dining experience. I tried the Chicken Biryani (not on the menu), and it was superb—rich in flavor and perfectly cooked. The Butter Chicken with Naan was smooth, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for anyone seeking top-notch food and ambiance!

Beautiful space, so glad they opened for dine-in service. We’ve been getting their take out for some time now, the food is excellent. Now we got to have a cocktail at the beautiful bar before a great meal. Highly recommend the Martinez cocktail btw. Servers are friendly. Elevated Indian food, the best I’ve ever eaten

Good indian food, but there is stiff competition in the neighborhood

Vajra recently opened for in person dining, and the experience is very promising! The Chicken Korma and Lamb Roghan Josh were both savory dishes, and the gruyere chili kulchha is absolutely a must order. The drinks were also a knock out, the Clarified Gin Fizz is a must order! The service left a little to be desired, but hopefully with more weeks being open, they'll nail down the service aspect

I recently dined at Vajra and it was an outstanding experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the service was top-notch. The food was exceptional—each dish was bursting with flavor. The cocktails were also a highlight, perfectly crafted and complementing the meal beautifully. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Indian cuisine. I’ll definitely be returning!
