Definitely recommend the shrimp cocktail and dirty martini. Also if you like a spicier drink try the 25 to life. This place was former law office that was hidden and uncovered when doing a simple remodel.

My husband and I have been wanting to go here since we walked by; we could see the relaxed atmosphere from the sidewalk. When friends visited, we finally made reservations... I recommend reservations given its small size. We were quickly sat in the couch/chairs area. The hostess was very nice; our server was incredibly quick and helpful throughout; and even the manager came by to tell us about the history of the building/bar+restaurant (very interesting, if you get the chance to ask!). The manager was constantly walking around FOH to make sure everything was taken care of and casually chat. Music was great: loud enough to enjoy, but soft enough to talk to others. We had several cocktails: Burden of Proof was my favorite (but they also made an incredible espresso martini), and then my friend got the 25 To Life (which had an amazingggg spicy tequila that does NOT hold back; do not underestimate the spicy, but it is so very good. We also enjoyed the other cocktails-you really can't go wrong. We also ordered the Warsaw Mushrooms. I hate mushrooms and sour cream usually (weird, I know), but this was seriously so very good and addicting.Overall, I really don't see why this place doesn't have at least a thousand reviews. Even with the excitement and high standards that my husband and I built up while waiting to visit Vol 39, I was really impressed. It's on the second floor of the building when you walk through the front doors. You can go up the stairs, and it'll be on your right. Elevators are on the first floor, down the hall when you walk in.Vegetarian options: Warsaw Mushrooms were fantastic.

Samantha was a fabulous maître d' who made my first anniversary with my boyfriend so wonderful! This is actually where we had our first date and came back for our anniversary, and Sam took that and ran with it. 10/10

Nice cocktails and space, didn’t get a chance to try the food but it was perfect for a late night drink at the hotel.

Love it, it's a hidden gem!!! Fabulous spot for a drink before dinner & the decor, setting and ambience are spectacular!! Located in the second floor in the Gray hotel (NW corner of LaSalle & Monroe) is a beautiful space located in a former law office. They kept all the old law books and build custom/lighted bookcases so the setting is spectacular. Small table and a few couches create intimate seating areas. Service is excellent & the craft cocktails delicious (wife enjoyed the Objection - basically an expresso martini). Love it & can't wait to go back!!!

My absolute favorite spot for a nice cocktail in the Loop. With a rotating menu, the drinks are thoughtfully crafted with unique themes. They once had a “Chicago worlds fair” theme which was very fun. The drinks are always super balanced and the bartenders are good at making recommendations if you give them your desired flavor profile. Above all else, I love the vibe of the space. It’s a very cool library style lounge filled with comfy leather chairs, old books, and sconce-lit art lamps. Overall, a really fun spot.

Vol. 39 has literally been part of my Yelp bookmark list for years. I finally stopped by before having dinner nearby. I was initially excited to try a couple of the cocktails I saw online. Unfortunately, none of these cocktails were available. The waiter mentioned that several of the menu items online were no longer available and that the website was pretty out of date. Hopefully this changes soon. I ended up ordering their version of an espresso martini (Wake up Martini). I thought it was pretty good. I liked the vintage library vibes inside this place.

Sexy and sophisticated atmosphere. Lux for a drink after work or on a date. Cocktails were fire and the manager and head mixologist were awesome. Vol. 39 Old Fashioned doesn’t disappoint.

They serve the Marz 'Room service' ale wich is a special colab between the Kimpton Hotel and Marz, a Chicago based brewery. It's amazing unique and refreshing it has hints of bergamote and it's just delicious. The wine and spirits list is also impressive. I recommend this place to chill in a beautifull decor.

I love Vol.39. They always have interesting cocktails and the food is amazing too. The servers are very helpful if you don’t know what to order. Always great atmosphere. I do recommend making a reservation as the space is limited.

Gorgeous upscale library-feel and bespoke furniture. Service was impeccable and prompt. My partner and I have the over the sea old fashioneds, which were top notch. We also shared the cheese board and charcuterie board. The Brie was simply the best I've ever had. And we also loved to picked beech mushrooms in tempura, a special treat. Highly recommend for a date or indeed for a group of friends.
