I recently attended a private event at The Vu, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. The restaurant made the poor decision to host two separate events at the same time, both of which were completely different in nature and clashed badly.
To make matters worse, the staff was unhelpful and seemed overwhelmed by the situation. When approached for assistance, they were dismissive and failed to provide any meaningful solutions. It felt like the priority was on packing the venue rather than delivering a well-managed and enjoyable private event.
If you’re considering The Vu for a private gathering, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

Cool area to have some drinks. Some of the outside areas were a bit trashed that day, but still a nice place.

First time in Chicago 10.30.2024. We (my sister & I) decided to go to the VU Rooftop since we were staying at the Hampton Inn McCormick Place. The portion size was small we had the Salmon Succotash the salmon was hot however the zucchini & squash was cold. Our waitress I think her name was Jenny not sure but she recommended a drink she created. I’m not a drinker so it didn’t really matter. However she was an amazing server. I didn’t like the fact that after we were served and received our check we were told our check couldn’t be split one check one form of payment but on the website it clearly states they provide one check that can be split into four forms of payment. I will not return it was not worth $94.86

It’s just a hotel, don’t expect anything else compared with others rooftops.

I came here with coworkers for a happy hour on Thursday. We were in town for a conference and wanted to explore the city as much as possible afterwards. This was a neat rooftop spot (I honestly perferred it to Cindy's- although I haven't been there in years so may need to revisit again) with some great food and drink options. We had a few appetizers - truffle fries, spicy soppressata flatbread, chicken thighs, and corn fritters - and a couple cocktails/wine. I really liked the flatbread, it had some great, flavorful heat and my boss lady drink was delicious, refreshing, and packed just the right punch. The chicken thighs were also pretty tasty too. Waitstaff was attentive, refilling waters and checking in on us periodically. All in all, I enjoyed this spot and would definitely come back.

Shrimp pasta, very basic flavor, Burger, unseasoned, overcooked with charred edges. Fries were delicious. Didn't get a drink, but they looked good. Nice looking place, and they played r&b.

Had the all you can eat buffet and bottomless mimosas. It was $35 for food and $40 for mimosas. Food was very plain. It was like the free breakfast you get at any hotel. I recommend you get the omelettes. The views were very nice. Bathrooms were a bit confusing at first, if you’re drunk good luck 😂

Got terrible food poisoning here. Do not order the chicken unless you want fevers, chills, and vomiting for 24 hrs.

Great views of city and lake. Pleasant check in experience. Seated promptly. Food service was fair but was very busy. Waiter was excellent. Food selection was basic bar service. Not bad, just nothing special.
Has the worst chairs. Decent place if you can get a couch-sitting which is only for large parties. The view is beautiful. The food was basic drinks were good though. Service was worth $5 tip
