Staff Ok, but food was terrible
The spicy tuna roll was very good and fresh. The place was slightly dirty with some spilled soy sauce by the bar and a bunch of napkins to soak up the mess. Service was ok for this being at an airport terminal
Some folks need to level the expectations. This is an airport. I travel extensively and this is the ONLY airport sushi I will eat. Today on a layover, breakfast Poke bowl. Sushi here is really good, fresh, flavorful. Staff is very curious and prompt. Again, airport. I don’t expect gush and butt kissing for a better tip. I’m here to eat, pay and get to flight. HIGHLY recommend, I always make time for sushi at Wicker Park if the connection allows.
Extremely rude staff.
Very very very good!
My husband and I ate dinner here on a Sunday and had a pretty good experience. I have gluten and dairy food allergies so I wanted to make sure I could get gluten free rolls and I was able to. The hostess was clueless and couldn’t even tell us if there were gluten free options, nor could she bother to put in the effort to hand my husband a menu when he asked. I wonder how many people with gluten allergies have not stopped here because of her since she was working during both our treks through the airport. Other than her terrible attitude, the waitress was very sweet and attentive and reassured us that the rolls could be made gluten free and the chefs were good about gluten allergies. She did mention that any of the rolls could be made gluten free and I believe the bowls can be gluten free also. We ordered 3 rolls to share (2 gluten free) and I had no issues at all. The portion size was large and the rolls were good- much better than supermarket sushi as other reviews have commented. They even had tamari. There wasn’t a lot of noise from people walking by and the chairs were pretty comfortable as well. If we have another layover at O’Hare while traveling, we will definitely be stopping again!
This ranks as one of the top places to eat at O’Hare. Got some edamame and a tempura roll and sat in the booth like table. Overall kind servers but I did see one of them eating a whole cucumber and then serving the lates with no time in between to wash hands.
Generous portion of edamame.
I was the only person in line waiting for someone to take my order. Manger told me to go to the bar to place an order and when I went over there the lady just looked at me and said go back around I’ll get you in a minute remind you I was in line for 15 minutes. Every white person was served but my black self. First time in Chicago at this airport and this was the service I got. Will be getting in contact with area manager or corporate office because the service was horrible and the lady at the bar that was heavy set curly hair with glasses was rude. Get another job if you can’t handle the volume ma’am.
Airport food is just airport food. Over priced menu is a given. The sushi here is not bad, about the same as the ones you get from the grocery store or a small Chinese owned sushi take out joint in the burbs. Good sushi rice. Nothing extraordinary, but no complaints. The wings (wingdings) were microwaved from frozen, soggy, do not order! Stick with the Sushi. I think this is the only Sushi joint in T1, full bar, plenty of seats. It gives more options then just burgers and fries.
I was on the last lap of a very delayed and long travel day. Was nice to stop here and tuck into some sushi while waiting for my flight. You won't get terribly attentive service, but that's okay.
Restaurantji Recommends
I rarely give such negative reviews, but this one definitely needs to be expressed. I’m not quite sure what the worst thing about this restaurant, so-called restaurant is. The planning was ridiculous, and the execution is even worse. Maybe I hit it on a bad night, but First of all they’re trying to insist that you order off of an app qr code while staff are standing there right in front of you which is ridiculous. Especially because the app doesn’t work. I got five shrimp cocktail, which were not cheap, and three of them were ammoniated. The nine dollar salad is basically a blob of greens out of a mixed green container and some so so balsamic dressing, the server was completely unengaged and could’ve cared less about any of it. She wasn’t even tall enough to actually reach the counter to wipe it down. Save your money and go somewhere else in the airport! God knows you’ll have to walk around long enough to find something else!!
We paid $36 for 6 pieces of sashimi….$6 for a piece of fish that’s not even that fresh is outrageous. And the manager was yelling really loudly to his staff - not a very pleasant experience
I highly recommend that restaurant at the end of C course . Quiet, open , good food and fast. No easy to find this in an airport
A manager lady, with greacy gray hair ( name Christin?), kept micromanaging the staff at the gate C1 location. As much as the cooks, bartenders, waiters tried, she kept the atmosphere uncomfortable and unwelcome for the guests.
Just ok sushi and small plates. Certainly overpriced ($16 for a basic maki roll is pretty absurd) but typical because it’s the airport. My issue is that they are blatantly discriminating. I ordered two sushi rolls, water, and a SINGLE alcoholic beverage (their guava spritzer). I am Asian so I do get a little flushed, it’s just genetics and I can’t help it. It’s not that I’m even tipsy or drunk but I do get flushed in my cheeks. I had a 3 hour wait before my flight boarded so asked if I could order a second alcoholic beverage and they told me no because I had gotten too rosy in the cheeks. My thing is, I had only had one drink. It’s not as if I had gone to another establishment and then continued drinking here. I don’t really think it was appropriate or good customer service. Due to discriminatory service practices, I will be calling their corporate and can confidently say that I will not be back.
