Wood is such a staple any time my fiance and I go through Northalsted! Food is top notch, service was quick, friendly and knowledgeable. Will absolutely be going back!
Started at the bar while waiting for a table I had requested, so we were fine to wait 10 minutes or so. Esther, the bartender, was excellent. We all loved our drinks. Scott, the host, was also our server. He is fun, professional, and on top of everything. We had a great time. I live up the street, but I hadn't been back to Wood in about 2 years. I think everything was better this trip than on my last one.
Food is always good and server pleasant. The problem is the timing in the kitchen. Took us two house to get our entrees. Can't do that. Sorry. No matter how good the food is and friendly the staff is a casual dinner shouldn't take over 3 hours.
Great food with affordable prices

Service was terrible. Food was pretty decent, but not enough to make up for the atrocious service. Went for my birthday and won’t be back. Sorry y’all.

Service was very efficient. Drinks were great. Food was not nearly as good as it had been in the past. It felt like it was overpriced for the quality. Both salads we had felt like they were trying too hard to be elevated. It didn't achieve that goal. They were just confusing on the palette. The bolognese was good but not anything special and the Pork Duo had good flavor but the spaetzle was overly salted and was not a good accompaniment to the pork. Overall, we used to really enjoy this place and always found the value in our visit. Something has changed and all of us question if we will return.
To preface we’ve been here before, had an amazing time, and that’s why we chose to celebrate the same birthday again this year.
My friend is a Halloween baby, and this year her birthday/the Halloween parade fell on a Friday. We fully expected the restaurant to be chaotic and busy and were mentally prepared for that.
We arrived early for our reservation. We were missing two people and asked if the full party had to be present to be seated. The hostess said no and she sat us immediately, which we appreciated.
The busser/back waiter filled our waters and checked on us multiple times. He deserves all the credit here — he was kind, attentive, and genuinely the only person providing hospitality the entire night. There was not a single manager presence. No table touches. No oversight.
Then our server, Scott, approached the table — and this is where everything fell apart. His attitude shifted instantly. He was irritated, short, aggressive, and pushy for the rest of the service. He even trauma dumped on us in an attempt to excuse his own behavior, which just made the whole situation even more uncomfortable and confusing. Had he simply explained that the bar was backed up, the kitchen was closing early, and things were running behind, we would’ve completely understood. We would’ve been one of the easiest, most patient tables in the room.
Instead, Scott chose to be aggressive and rude, which ultimately ruined the entire experience for our party.
This nihht was so disappointing, especially knowing what amazing service/hospitality the restaurant used to provide.
We won’t be coming back.
Don’t waste your money.
Last night we went to Wood for my birthday dinner. We went last year and had such a great time that we decided to come back this year. It happened to be the night of the Halloween parade, so the restaurant was understandably busy. We had an 8:30 p.m. reservation for a party of eight and were seated right away.
Unfortunately, our server, Scott, had an attitude from the moment he approached the table. He immediately told us to put our food order in before the kitchen closed, which caught us off guard especially since the restaurant allowed us to make a reservation just 30 minutes before closing without any warning that we’d need to rush.
When Scott returned to take our order, his tone was short and reactive. He snapped at one friend for asking if the burger came with fries, and at another for ordering the “KFC sandwich,” saying sharply, “It’s not a sandwich. I don’t know why everyone thinks it is.” The tension at the table was palpable every time he came by. I found myself on edge, worried about setting him off again.
By the end of the meal, after one of my friends tried to lighten the mood, Scott launched into an unsolicited story about being maced during last year’s Halloween — an uncomfortable “trauma dump” that none of us expected or wanted during dinner.
It was, honestly, the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. What makes it even more disappointing is that it happened on my birthday, an evening that should have felt special but instead felt stressful and uncomfortable. If I wanted to be yelled at during dinner, I’d have gone to the Wiener Circle and at least had a laugh about it.
I’ll never return to Wood, and I’ll be sharing this experience with others so they can avoid having their night ruined the way mine was.
Worst experience I've had. We come in pretty often and while service has been questionable recently, this night was by far the worst I've experienced at any restaurant. It took 55 minutes for us to get our first drink, while walk in customers would order at the bar and receive service right away. The server was not apologetic and justified the wait time. I understand when it's busy but this was ridiculous.
They seemed very overwhelmed. Took 90 plus mins before food arrived. We had to leave without eating our entre's.

11/10 experience. We've been going to Wood nearly every single week/weekend since we discovered it a few months ago. We first went there for brunch out of curiousity. We were warmly greeted by Esther who quickly sat us and was incredibly attentive throughout the meal. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and had great suggestions. I forgot what we both had but it was delicious and so were the drinks. Since we had such a great brunch experience, we decided to stop in for dinner. Another amazing experience. Our server was also attentive and very kind. My card embarrassingly declined and then my silly drunk mind gave the server a store card and he was incredibly patient with me! I apologized profusely and he kept telling me I had nothing to be sorry for. The third time it was pretty busy so we sat at the bar and was warmly greeted by Esther again! She remembered us and even our drink orders. The owner also stopped by to check in, such a nice guy! The bartenders, Esther and Lex are both phenomenal. Not only do they make fantastic drinks, they are super friendly, attentive, and put in a lot of effort to make you feel comfortable! The bar was super clean and the restaurant itself was also very clean. The staff clearly care a lot about the place. I highly recommend Wood for all your brunch, dinner, and drinks. I personally recommend: the sidecar, espresso martini, shrimp ceviche, salmon toast, cheese board, KFC entree, wood's burger, chateaubriand.
The menu also frequently changes and the chefs are so creative. It's fun to see what new delicious dishes they're cooking up each week!

We haven't been there in about 10 years. The experience was fair that not and we didn't go back. Last night was wonderful. We asked for outdoor seating and it was setup for us. We also realized it was colder than we thought and they moved us indoors with out missing a beat. A nice high table in the window. The steak tartar was the best I can remember and I have tartar regularly. The taste was the best. The presentation with the shaved mushrooms and the house made potato chips was new and great! My bolognese was very flavorful. The pasta was like being in Italy. Again, interesting presentation. My wife had the mushroom pasta and refused to share a bite. Her son had the beet salad and loved it. The martini's were well done and not those cheesy 3 ounce glasses. Rita served us last night. She is outstanding.
Food was spot on and quick out of the kitchen. Rita, our server was very attentive and a pleasure!
We enjoyed our food and especially our server, Scott, who was lots of fun. We have been to this restaurant many times, but not in a while. Definately worth a visit.
