I think the concept here is quite fun. You grab a big bowl and tongs, pick out your ingredients, choose your broth. They then weigh it and cook it up for you. Zhangliang Malatang Chicago is one of my favorite spots for customizable soup! I ordered the tom yum broth, which was bursting with flavor, and loved how fresh all the ingredients were. I really appreciate that the bowls are large, and you can make your soup completely personal to your tastes—choosing your broth, proteins, vegetables, and spice level. It's my second time coming here and it hasn't disappointed. The price you pay can be very reasonable for the amount of ingredients you add to your malatang.

If you want to get the most bang for your buck, consider getting lighter ingredients or else the price can sneak up on you when you weigh everything.

The service is also very good. Even though they're super busy with a small staff team, they are super friendly and patient....
