I’ve been wanting to come to this site for over a year and a half, but did not come because the website said the gallery and exhibits are closed for renovation. Since 2024, the website has said it would be done by 2025. It’s 2026, is it open yet?
The visitor center was closed, otherwise a 5. Cool place. Excellent archaeology.
It was very interesting to see... Hopefully next time I'm through here it'll be warmer so I can explore more. And think there were hundreds of these all over the Midwest. Maybe even thousands. Too bad most of them were plowed over.
Largest city in North America, ns even larger than London at one point, yet we didnt learn about this in grade school??
Educational and has great views of downtown St Louis, too.
Monk Mound is the largest with multiple audio and augmented reality spots available.
There is a visitor's center as well. It was closed on the day I visited. The pathways were open and well-maintained.
Great historic place
Love this place every time I go,I take home a couple spirits wandering around and release them in my great Granite City Town.lmao
Like Stonehedge for England, Cahokia Mounds is a deeply buried in history place in the US. Here more than 20,000 people lived sometime between 700 and 1400 AD, that is more than population of London at the time. The UNESCO World Heritage site has more than 80 earthen mounds arrayed around a grand plaza. The woodhedge timber circle was used for astronomical observations.
It is a nice experience, especially if you pass or go to Saint Louis. The iconic Gateway Arch is clearly visible from the mounds.
Neat historical place. I can only imagine what it was like back then.
Neat place.

Great Site!
Awesome adventure! Monks mound pyramid, woodhenge, you can feel the vibe. Even better than Spinal Tap.
A great cultural activity for the whole family. The visitor center seems to be undergoing a remodel. I can wait to visit when it is finished.
The guides were engaging.
Better than expected. Very close to the highway. Well worth visiting for anyone interested in history.
