Great food at an even better price. I went here and ordered 2 rolls and some sashimi, the fish was super fresh and flavorful, and the rice underneath had a unique(in a good way) flavor that just added to the overall experience. I will be returning as this place offers a wide variety of items at very fair prices and is very popular among students.

Listen, you are going here for the great food. You don't need to be seated around a teppan watching a chef throw around food. Every time I've been here my husband wouldn't go because there was no dinner show. He finally went with for a birthday celebration and now understands. The food is amazing. The staff is wonderfully pleasant and helpful. The robot waiter is fun. There's a reason the place is almost always full. Go eat here now!

Hometown place. Wonderful food, girls who work there were so kind to help me order as I've never eaten there or at a Japanese restaurant before. I don't like fish and found vegetable sushi! It was so delicious!
I also had spring rolls. They were good but probably time to change the oil for frying. They were just a bit greasy. I ate them though and they were fine!
My husband had chicken and noodles hibachi. He enjoyed it!
The little robot that delivered the food is cute!
You can tell how popular this place is. It was super busy!
I'd love to freshen up this place esthetically but we will definitely be back next time we are in town.

This used to be my favorite place in town, but unfortunately the service has gone downhill — it’s definitely not the place it once was. After a bad experience with the counter staff and an unreasonable wait time, I decided to give them another chance, thinking maybe they were understaffed. However, two back-to-back negative experiences were enough for me to take my business elsewhere.
I’m Latina, so this isn’t coming from a place of bias — but if someone is taking customer orders, they should at least be pleasant. That was not the case. I had called in my order while I was in Sycamore. Once I arrived, I was told it wasn’t ready yet and was given a buzzer. A walk-in customer came in, ordered the same item, and their buzzer went off before mine.
I politely went to the counter to ask about my order since I had called ahead. She turned to the cook to ask, and it turns out my food had been sitting on the counter the entire time I was waiting. I was already frustrated, but instead of apologizing, she handed me my order with attitude — as if I was the one inconveniencing her.
After two similar experiences, I can’t recommend this place anymore and won’t be returning.

The appetizers were fine : crab Rangoon and edamame. But everything else was just ok to not very good at all. Bubble tea was weird and the tapioca pearls were the oddest taste and texture. Vegetable tempura udon was bad, the soup was ok but the tempura was thick and gross. Finally the mochi were awful. The rice coating was way too thick and a weird grainy paste, not ice cream. I won’t be back.

I fell in love with sushi because of this place. I moved away from the DeKalb area but was back and decided to go back here to get some sushi. The crab rangoon tasted like it was sitting for 20 minutes. It was soggy and was dripping grease. I also got a tempura crab roll. It also tasted like it had been sitting for 20 minutes. There was no crunch. No flavor. Tasted like soggy bread. It was disappointing.

Lived in dekalb for a number of years while going to college and Fushi Yami was a great place for friends to get together. We still come here while passing through, even if it's a drive from 39.
Sushi has never had a bellow god taste and their hibachi is pretty good too. It's a quick stop, college town, sushi place and it still surpasses expectations, even after ~15? years.
They even have a little robot that delivers you food to your table, which is a perfect touch to the atmosphere.

Tasty hibachi here, and so much more, like Ramen and sushi. Gonna take a minute to work thru the large menu. And they have a super cute robot deliver the food to your table!

This is like the third time I’ve ordered only edamame and have had to wait over 20 minutes, despite an empty dining area. All they gotta do is microwave it for a minute. I’d rather they just give me the cold soybeans lol

Fushi Yami is one of those spots that doesn’t try too hard—and that’s exactly why it works. Tucked off Lincoln Highway, it’s got a no-frills vibe, but the food speaks for itself. The hibachi is consistently solid—steak and shrimp are my go-to—and the sushi rolls hit the sweet spot between fresh and flavorful. The Crazy Roll? Wild in the best way.
Ordering feels more fast-casual than sit-down, which throws some people off, but once you dig in, you get it. The portions are generous, prices are fair, and the fried rice deserves its own fan club. Service can be hit or miss—some staff are super friendly, others seem like they’re counting down the minutes—but the owner’s usually around and genuinely cares.
It’s the kind of place where you can try something new every time or stick to your comfort order and never be disappointed. Not fancy, not fussy—just good food that hits the spot when you need it. Whether you’re grabbing lunch between errands or settling in for a casual dinner, Fushi Yami delivers. Bonus points for easy parking and fast turnaround.
