They do not wash the trays where they bake the bread. Outside were the rolls in their Trays (it's not the first time I've seen this here) and when I tried to grab the ones I was going to buy by taking them off the trays that are RE burnt from so much baking (without washing them after each use) they were It sticks that burnt stuff (which even looks like rust) to the rolls and breads and it's not healthy because you eat them. The owner needs to buy new trays for his bread and start washing them after each use... for health and hygiene

The bread is not the most delicious but it is acceptable; However, customer service is terrible. With no other customer other than my child and me, and it took them 15 minutes to serve me, there were two people in the place to attend to the cashier, but it seems that what they did (talk and clean) was more important than serving. They need training. And no, the only one who can apparently charge is the manager or the manager/owner. The other employees never get paid. The bread is not the most delicious, but it is acceptable. The customer service is absolutely horrible. Just because there are no options nearby they abuse it. The manager with a bad face ignoring to collect. Even another day a customer told the person that his order was wrong and that it wasn't the first time. If you can, avoid buying here. And if you ask who the person was, the only one I've seen who gets paid, it was during the week and he was wearing a pale pink worsted hat. And another weekend lady is extra slow to get paid.

I ordered a cake for a birthday with days in advanced, the lady told me they would have it ready by whatever time I could come pick it up so I said at 1pm. The day I went to pick up my order that I had already payed for they hadn’t even made the cake yet. Very bad service.EditResponse to the owner:No I didn’t have to wait “FEW MINUTES” for “FINISHING TOUCHES” the problem is that the cake hadn’t even been made at all. Even the lady at the counter apologized to me for the inconvenience and she even offered me the full refund. So don’t say things or assume things if you do not know what really happened. Please do better.

$9.00 for a cold ham torta!! My daughter got the wrong order and when she went in there to let the girl know...the girl started getting loud with my 12 year old. That is where I stepped in. The girl there started rolling her eyes. She started to take out the Jalapenos and tomatoe with no gloves on in front of us. I told her we didn't want it and wnated our money back. She began arguing. Another lady came out and did yhe refund for us. Stay away from cold tortas and people!!!

Found little pieces of metal in my chocoflan, I originally bought it Friday and ate it today. Now my tongue & mouth hurt. Not ever coming here again.

El Chicanito has an authentic Mexican bread and food. People working in this place are so nice and friendly. You can feel a good vibe once you cross the main door. You must go and try it.

The food is delicious. I'm Mexican so I think that tells a lot. The service was also great. They recommended us what to get. The ambiance is overall clean open spaced. Definitely 10/10 recommend!

Was in Elgin and I wanted to get some concha's and sweet Mexican bread. So I saw this place and stopped by and I grabbed a tray and tongs. I went to grab a bread I like and it was hard as a rock. So there where four more pieces and they all hard. I continued and went to grab concha's and they are a couple days old you can feel it in the tension of the bread. I was disappointed and I just left the tray and tongs and walked out.

First time trying this bakery, is one of the few places I was told that sells atole de nuez, I've been looking for authentic atole, the taste was there and it was good. I had their tamales, verdes and of rajas, torta and bread. I will definitely be going back, I loved the torta de jamon even tho it was a bit salty but their tamales de raja were soooo good. I can't really eat spicy due to health issues and these were not spicy. The bread was really good too. Thank you for the service. Ps. Online it said the bakery opens at 5am, I went on Sunday and I waited one hr, they opened until 6am, definitely worth the wait since I traveled from Chicago.

Edit for reply to owner: Female with glasses and tat on arm. She rang up the order wrong and when she was told that was not correct she said it was too late to fix it.Bad service. Refused to correct an order they got wrong. Refused to get the right food and refused refund. Won't be coming here anymore.Mal servicio. Hicieron el orden mal y no quisieron corregir el orden. Nunca más.

I was happy. I always ask if a place offers meat tamales. As a gringo who avoids pork, I was happy to get a tamale with chicken in it. Plus it was much less expensive, than I thought it would be. How often does that happen?
