Been here once on one of their taco Tuesdays nights. The deal is not bad but the wait was ridiculous. I do believe it was their first week or second open so I figured I would give it another go since the food was good and I live nearby but when I wanted to place an order to go the phone was never picked up, I attempted multiple times and gave it a few minutes to re-try but I guess they still haven't been able to figure out this restaurant business.

Very friendly...wonderful food. I had Asada burrito and husband had an omelette!! Very tasty!! Salsa bar was wonderful! Plan on returning soon. My husband said it was his new favorite place.

Saw this new local spot pop up in Yelp. It can be hard to stand out amongst the many authentic Mexican restaurants, but El Taco Alegre's salsa bar is really a great option. With over a dozen interesting and fresh salsas and great homemade chips, it's easy to become addicted. The tacos choices are numerous and the quality is on par with the salsas. El Taco Alegre only serves breakfast and lunch, but the breakfast and lunch offerings will likely meat any of your Mexican cravings. Parking is relatively easy with plenty of street parking within a few feet.

Great omelettes! Had a sausage, ham and american cheese. Super yummy, their hash browns just need a touch of salt as they were a little bland. & ordered last time the chilaquiles. Didn’t really care much for them it was kind of disappointing. Their Cecina was a salty and chilaquiles kind of dry. But other than that their omelette was bomb! Sooo good.

Good solid Mexican food! I had the taco trio plate. Two tacos de carne asada and one shrimp taco. The plate came with mashed beans and Mexican rice. The beans and rice were well made. The salsa bar was fantastic! Very few restaurants. I'm including Chicago restaurants can not compare many varieties of salsa that El Taco Alegre offers. Great service!
I've ordered from their Taco Tuesday Special twice. You only get the special price if you order a drink. The only thing I liked was the way they seasoned their meats. Their "corn" tortillas do not taste like corn tortillas. Their salsa bar is nice to see but it's dissatisfying when you have to take to go 6 salsas because you're unsure of which one is spicy and will be good. Overall, a nice place to try out but I wouldn't order again.

Tried El Taco and it was a great. Nice friendly service staff. Food was fresh and well seasoned. I tried the appetizer nachos which is enough for 2 people. Also had the Carnitas tacos which were yummy. Nice atmosphere, convenient location with street level lot parking a block away. As you enter the building there is a panaderia with a great selection of baked goods and the restaurant is just down a flight of stairs.

Excellent Mexican, a little hard to find it's on Chicago right after Grove on your left. Then go down the stairs. Hip and authentic ambience. Steak tacos, guacamole and salsa bar all excellent. Shrimp taco was okay, and same with asada burritos. Portion size pretty large on the burrito. Owners very down to earth and personable.
