Tldr; help a local business (Sugar and Rhyme in Elgin) thrive so I can always have amazing croissants I have discovered an absolute gem in Elgin. I have been missing out big time. If you haven't been to Sugar and Rhyme yet, and you love croissants, please go. Also I've only tried one latte, but I like it. So report back with your findings on that matter. I went to visit family in Europe back in like 2008. This place makes the best croissant I've had since then. Like, hands down. It's easily of equal quality. I can't get over it. And they make everything in house. Fresh. Daily. INCLUDING!!!!! all the coffee mixins. The only sad thing is that the store is really small, so you're probably not going to be able to find a seat. But you should still go. I want this place to absolutely thrive so I can have a steady supply of their croissants. Don't let me down, people. P.S. I was lazy and copy-pasted my post on my personal page.
Shops like this will help re-energize downtown Elgin. Staff were friendly, coffee was flavorful and smooth, and the place has that comfy cafe appeal. Will go back for more ham/gouda croissants and Italian meringues, and will also plan to try the macarons. Top recommendation!!

This is a very nice coffee shop. Super friendly and kind staff. Relaxing atmosphere. Great latte. Delicious butter croissant. The thing that stood out the most was the absolutely delicious chocolate torte. It was probably the best dessert that I've ever had.......absolutely amazing. So glad we stopped!!

This cafe has a wonderful staff/owners and the best croissants I've ever had! I've tried all their croissants and adore them all: classic butter croissants, chocolate croissants, almond croissants, and even smoked ham and gouda filled! Their other pastries are great, too. And they make an awesome chai latte - my favorite drink! And, I absolutely love that they use eco friendly packaging. I hope this place stays in Elgin for a long time. We're so lucky to have them.

The coffee is always great, and the smoothies are tasty. The thing that really shines about Sugar and Rhyme is their pastry. It's advertised as a coffee shop, but those croissants are over the top. Light, buttery, crispy and offered in original, chocolate, and even with ham & cheese, these are worth every shatteringly delicious crumb you'll get on your shirt.

This place is amazing. Great coffee, and tea. The pastries and baked items are delicious, the owner did the art on the walls, and she sells her own art (personal favorite artist of myself), and it's just an awesome place to enjoy a moment.
Wheelchair accessibility: There is a small step to enter the building as it's an older entrance in downtown area.

If I want a flat white, or a latte, I would go to a cafe. Most of them are closed on Sunday so today we decided to try Sugar and Rhyme because they are open and the reviews are good. We were bamboozled. Their steamer wasn't working but they claimed they could still make lattes and flat whites, should have been the first red flag. However, my husband went in with our daughter, and didn't want any issues. The lattes and the flat white were UNDRINKABLE. I still cannot fathom how they seem to think it would be comparable to anything other than a gas station coffee. We threw everything away and went to Bigby coffee instead where they know what the difference between a flat white and a drip coffee is. If I went in instead of my husband I would have requested a full refund because are you joking??
