I was sad for this restaurant - I don't know if it knows what it wants to be. It was written up in Hinsdale Magazine over the summer and, at that time, there was a separate menu for Kindred - which is what I was expecting. Upon arrival, it is now a merged menu between Ever Onward and Kindred with some of the entrees removed. It seems to be many restaurants in one large space and the owners don't know what to do with themes, tying the menu items, etc. between a sports bar and a higher-end restaurant. Some items were very good - beet salad with salmon portion as an example. And the cocktails were solid. Other items missed - fish tacos with fish very dry and not flavorful, smoked tomato pasta sauce too watery/runny. Service was good/pleasant. But this is a big space and we were there on a Saturday with very few tables seated. Owners need to decide what they want to be and what menu they offer quickly - or they won't survive.
Hosted my grandmother's surprise 75th birthday dinner for 40 guests and could not have been more pleased! From the start, Tom was incredible at communicating, being flexible, and accommodating for our group. The service was IMPECCABLE (thank you Rachel!!!) and the food was INCREDIBLE (thank you Chefs)! We will look forward to hosting future events here!
They served us a pretzel that was still frozen in the middle. Small portions of meat for our salmon and steak dinners also. Meal was not worth the $90 it ended up being with a couple drinks and entrees.
This place was disgusting. We only ordered nachos and were the worst we ever tried. I got a sangria and it taste like fruit punch no alcohol. The place was empty. On a Friday. Our server was amazing. Her boss was annoying hovering all over her. We gave her a great tip. I felt bad for the server. We thought we were going to eat there then after trying nachos we left and went to “victory”. I don’t understand the concept of 3 different names it was confusing to where to go and sit. I think is a waste of space.
Good overall, not great though. Service was good....but one server for many tables. Probably a personnel issue. Food was ok to good. Salmon was good, fries soggy. Burgers good but terrible value, chicken tenders excellent but value also questionable. Nachos were lukewarm and I wouldn't order again.
Excellent service. Food was so good we ordered 3 of the dishes for a second round (there were 4 of us eating tapas style). Wine selection was really nice too...something for everyone. Fun fact: some days they have music and dancing in the back room!
Food was not good across the board. Fries were soggy and chicken fingers lacked flavor. Steak was over cooked and mediocre quality. My fish was cooked well but the flavors were all over the place with toppings. The carrot dish was awful - especially for $24 on a few carrots. The whole two menus thing is weird as well.
Food And service was really good! Had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc that was delicious. Kids mac & cheese best in the suburbs Negatives: it was a little overpriced and the bathroom and downstairs area was quite dirty.
We went to kindred not realizing that there's a whole other restaurant and different menu in the same venue. The menu for kindred is very limited and not much variety. On the windows it says fried chicken tacos burgers but none of those are on the kindred menu. The wine list is poor. We ordered a Tito's grapefruit drink that tasted like watered down tang. Yuck. We ordered the beef tartare and it was good. Served with rye toast. We did not stay for dinner as we didn't like anything on the menu. This place need some serious work. The other menu for ever onward looks good but we were not offered that menu until we told our server we were not staying for dinner because we couldn't find anything on the kindred menu. We will go back and try ever onward and hope that's a better experience.
What a cute little town for date night ❤️Kindred opened only 2 months ago by owner Tom Trenta. He's joined by Chef Michael Carroll previously from Band of Bohemia and Alinea !This new spot cooks up fresh meats & seafood on a 600-degree open wood-fire grill. It's all grilled to perfection with the unique flavors from the wood-fire - juicy and tender through and throughMy biggest highlights were the lamb lollipop, grilled trout, & octopus. Nothing beats the crispy charred skin on the trout + completely de-boned. Flavors in the octopus were great, especially the Romesco & celery chimichurriI loved that the tartar had crispy garlic chips, mushrooms, and shallots. It was on a grilled rye bread that was really aromatic & had a great chew.Lastly don't forget their fudgy chocolate mousse cake! It's not made in-house but still pretty goodI've never been to this area so it was a pleasant surprise how cute this area was! Make a day out of it by going to the movies or watching a showMore on Instagram @midwestmunching

Ordered apps and drinks. Pathetic serving sizes for the price. Prawns were not anywhere near "fire roasted"; undercooked. Who undercooks shrimp? Slow roasted carrots are hilarious. Tasty, but LOL. Beets were good but absolutely not $15 worth. Carrot hummus was good but TINY. Our party ordered 3 of the same drink and they all tasted different. One was awful. Do people actually dine here more than once?
I suspect that some of our experience at Kindred was "new restaurant" stuff, but -- as much as I want this place to succeed -- the experience we had shows there is growth needed before Kindred is worth the prices they're charging. We dined with Kindred on Fathers' Day; my wife and I were gifted a night out while the kids tended themselves. To be clear -- it wasn't overly busy.We got a nice table outside and other tables were empty (as was the inside). We had a pleasant server, opened with wine, and asked about suggested appetizers. "The carrots," she said. "Roasted for 6 hours." We also got the octopus. Neither were great. The carrots were a disaster. They weren't roasted for 6 hours. Maybe microwaved. They weren't even peeled or cleaned well. It set a bad tone.I had the steak, ordered medium-rare, delivered medium-well to well. The server handled it with grace, and they packed up the old steak for us and replaced it. Second round was good, but the combo of the bizarrely bad carrots appetizer and the overcooked steak colored the experience for us.Things just felt sloppy and style undeveloped. Plating was messy; heavy on sauces with the features hidden under sides (especially true for the octopus). The steak was sliced in a pretty fashion; the octopus served as a single, charred tentacle. It was just inconsistent. We'll go back. But we may give it a few months to get their feet under them.
Very nice people working at Kindred! We ate outside. I ordered two appetizers for dinner-grilled octopus and steak tartare. The octopus was decent but just wasn't as good as I've had at other places—maybe not as fresh? The steak tartare was also okay with garlic, salt and pepper, but could have used a sauce drizzled on top or an egg for more flavor and mouthfeel. My husband had the duck breast. It came with cherries, plums, and arugula. Duck was cooked properly and tasted fine. He wished it had come with some potatoes or other side to make it more satisfying. He was still hungry afterwards. Overall I would give the food 3.5 stars out of 5. The prices say “gourmet” but the dishes need improving to qualify.
We had a great meal and highly recommend Kindred. Our only complaint was the octopus dish. It tasted terrific but was REALLY small. At a nearly $20 price, we expected a portion 3-4X what we got. That said everything tasted GREAT and we will definitely be back.
Great service, ambiance and incredible food!! We were so excited to try it out after learning that everything is cooked on an open flame. First, we had drinks- the house wine and the spicy orange margherita (sooo good!). Then, we had the hangar steak and lamb lollipops. Everything was cooked to perfection and the combo of flavors was creative and complemented each other so well. My husband was a little hungry still, so next time we’d get a side as well. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse which is made in house and it was outstanding!! We are excited to come back again and love that the menu is truly seasonal and will be changing every three months.
