First time here after going to the garden of the gods. The place made us feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. Friendly service people, food was fast and good. Price was reasonable. They sang for my wife 73 BD and they said they haven't done that yet but the whole staff came over and sang . I highly recommend going here to grab a bite when seeing the park.

We have eaten at Red Onion several times. The food is usually good. The last time the Prime Rib was mediocre and the Broccoli was cold. Since we had such good experience in the past I hope they were having an off night.

The waitress was perfect... The ribs were good, but I've got to say, the Potato Salad is in my top three of all time!! I try a new potato salad every chance I get, and this was absolutely delicious!!!

If I could give 10 stars I would. We got married in the park and showed up with a group of 25 people on short notice they made sure to accommodate us. The staff was great especially the hostess Connie. The food was fantastic if youre ever in the area be sure to stop in and enjoy some of the best food we have had in southern illinois. We will definitely be back anytime were in the area.

We had a party of 8 and called ahead before coming. It’s a small-town spot, very easy to find, though parking was a bit of a headache since it’s only street parking. That made things tricky because one person in our group doesn’t walk very well.

We were seated right away with a reservations, which was nice. They bring out complimentary bread with strawberry butter, and that was honestly one of the highlights — really tasty. We ordered one of each appetizer. They were good, but the portions were smaller than expected.

The service, however, was disappointing. I specifically asked for the kids’ meals to come out with the appetizers (any parent knows why that matters), but our waitress wouldn’t do it. She only checked on us once the entire meal.

As for the food, most of it was fried. The steak dishes weren’t impressive — one was overcooked, another was dry, and overall, the seasoning was lacking. On the other hand, the onion burger looked and tasted good, and the frog legs and shrimp were solid. The salads were a big letdown: just a bowl of lettuce with an onion slice on top, and the ranch was so watered down it wouldn’t stick to anything.

They also don’t serve alcohol, which is fine, but when we asked, the waitress replied with, “Um, this is a family restaurant,” and it came off a bit rude.

Our bill came to around $300, and I don’t feel it was worth that. The food was greasy, the service poor, and overall, I don’t see what the hype is about. The best part of the whole experience was actually outside — the old-school payphone booth with a working dial tone. Showing my kids how it worked was more memorable than the meal itself.

Bottom line: I wouldn’t go back.
