The food and service were both exceptional. They made a beautiful chocolate cake to celebrate my son's graduation. I would highly recommend Fonda Cantina. It is a wonderful authentic Mexican restaurant. We all loved it. Thank you!
I had a dinner party for 16 in the private room. It was a great success. Everyone ordered whatever they wanted. I had several appetizers pre-ordered to accompany individual drinks. The waitstaff worked smoothly... so Pleasant.
The food ( and the tequila) were fantastic. This was a very special meal. The mollets were delicious as a passed appetizer. We knew of cochinita and even pollo pibil but never halibut, and had never trued mole blanco. Bravo!
Fonda is a wonderful restaurant! From Coco's smiling face at the podium to the authentic and tasty food and attentive service, Fonda delivers all the way around. The drinks are generously prepared and pair perfectly with the fresh and best-ever guacamole and chips. Our table had a range of entrees from carne asada to the torta burger and salmon. All were thoughtfully prepared and delicious, with just the right amount of seasoning. Oh, and the space itself is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. I highly recommend Fonda, whether you live on the North Shore or want to escape the city for something fresh and delicious. This is a unique experience. Don't miss it.
Wonderful food and service, it took a little long but the place was full

C'mon Evanston and North Shore - this is a great restaurant, and if we want good food/restaurants, we need to frequent them. This place has great food, super staff, and can be flexible for small and big parties as well as a great place for a date.
Best chile relleno I've had in years. Nicely charred instead of breaded and fried. My dining companion had the birria tacos which were tasty. Also enjoyed my michelada drink! We're comiing back.
A delightful Mexican restaurant in the former Stained Glass space. The space still works - delightful and intimate. Very good food but a somewhat limited menu. Excellent and attentive service.
We ordered drinks and two of us ordered 2oz pours(they are offered as 1oz or 2oz pours on the menu)tequila neat w a rock on the side. The server brought us 1oz shot glasses telling us they were 2oz pours?! We are well aware of what a shot glass is. Also bringing us a 1oz shot glass filled w ice?! HUH?! We ordered another 2oz pour and this time it was a true 2oz pour which I pointed out to server. He was quite dumbfounded to say the least. When the bill came we were of course charged for 4 2oz pours.
One of the better Mexican restaurants I have tried in recent memory. The Margaritas were outstanding (and 1/2 price on Thursday) and the Pollo en Mole was a great entree. Even the chips and salsa were a notch above. Recommended!

Lovely service and excellent food! Go Thursday night to hear Patty Ortega. Great voice lovely songs in Spanish with volume low enough to still enjoy your dinner and your conversation. Intimate venue. Patty sings from 6-8. Enjoy!
Great ambiance. Very authentic Mexican food. Had the ceviche, excellent. Had 3 different tacos, all good, chicken tinga my favorite. Loved the live music and the kind wait-staff. I believe they will do well.
The appetizers, ceviche and guacamole, were delicious. Nice balance between the shrimp onion and mango and the guac was fresh and well seasoned. The fresh tortilla chips were also fantastic. The drinks were a little too sweet and didn't feature the flavors of the tequila in the side car or the mezcal in the margarita enough. The margarita mix didn't taste fresh. The three of us really enjoyed our main courses. Barbacoa was perfectly cooked, tender and had a wonderful smokiness to it. My wife said her salad was excellent, very fresh, great dressing, and the salmon she ordered was cooked perfectly. For dessert, we ordered the flan which was a little overdone, but still tasty. Our waiter seemed to be distracted and the service was slow. The hostess was inviting and welcoming. With food this good, FONDA just needs to tighten up the operations and make sure that the dining experience is as good as their food. They should expand their menu a bit, as there weren't a ton of choices. Feature more tequilas and make sure the tequila and Mezcals are the stars of their drinks! Fingers crossed they can accomplish all this! It really has a chance to be a great, not just good, restaurant!
We love this place. The food and service have always been on point. I've especially enjoyed the margaritas, ceviche, salmon and carne asada. It my teen daughter's new favorite place.
We came for the Thursday night singer, which was lovely. Also had the restaurant anniversary small bites for a dollar apiece and the half-price margaritas. A real deal. Food was tasty.
