I absolutely love this place. I’ve had 2 other Cantonese restaurants I can say I’ve enjoyed and honestly Hunan Star is by far my favorite now. Pan fried noodles, veggie fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, Mongolian beef. All amazing. Do yourself a favor and grab this when you are in Evanston.

The lunch specials are THE BEST! Call in your order the pick it up or have it delivered. They have a counter that would make it the smallest dining area in the North Shore but I might try it out on a rainy day. The menu is not gigantic the serve popular American style Chinese food with talent & precision. When you open up your boxes you are pleased with what your senses are sending to your brain. What you see smell & taste equal delicious.
Vegetarian options: Rice or noodles with veggies & a scrumptious sauce you can't go wrong.

I ordered their sesame chicken not over a half hour ago and am currently holding myself back from finishing the entire dish. This is without a doubt one of if not the best sesame chickens I have ever had. The portion size was amazing and will provide me with 3 meals total for what I paid. I know I will be back for more of this dish and other dishes they serve. I recommend this to anyone looking for high quality food!

I decided to try this place ignoring the bad reviews saying the food tastes bad and they were right! Orange chicken was horrible. Chicken was hard and dry and didn’t taste or look like any orange chicken I’ve ever had before. Even the fried rice was bad. Bland and barely anything in it (little to no egg/onions etc.) Listen to the bad reviews and go elsewhere!

best chinese food you will ever get i’ve grown up with this place and it is absolutely fabulous! The customer service is incredible and the food is outstanding I have not yet been to a place that’s better then Hunan star I truly don’t believe there is a better chinese cuisine better then this!

First time ordering, and the experience was great! Take out—when I arrived the lobby was full of neighborhood people and everyone seemed familiar with the staff and the service was great. A quick order, delicious food and a friendly staff located close to home… we’ll be back!
