A delicious and affordable Japanese restaurant. Sushi and maki rolls are very fresh. They have very attentive and helpful staff. We have eaten in the restaurant and gotten take-out. Quality of food has always been excellent. This is my favorite place for sushi in EvanstonParking: Paid street parking on Main Street or Chicago. You can find free street parking on side streets if you are willing to walk

Showa era vibes. Good thick cutt sushi that's a little heavy on wasabi. Still delicious.

Our go-to Japanese food in Evanston.Always tasty, always fresh, balanced traditional food. Our Japanese friend was the person to introduce it to us and it has been a favorite ever since.I'm actually salivating thinking about the food there.

The place is peaceful with a nice atmosphere. Their sushi is very fresh and Japanese authentic style, with no fancy rolls. I really like their selection of raw fish and tasty tempura!

The best sushi in Chicagoland! Always so fresh, ghe service is phenomenal, and you can't leave without trying the soft shell crab! Plus you can't beat the prices. Been coming here since I was a teenager and have never found a place that beats Kunis soft shell crab nor their sushi!

Always a 10/10. I go almost weekly and it's one of the few restaurants I actually dine in instead of ordering to go because the restaurant itself is so comforting and cute. Food is incredible and staff is attentive.

What a homey place to have sushi and traditional japanese dishes. It's a cozy setting where I'd be comfortable bringing friends or family to enjoy a delicious meal without a hipster crowd. Sashimi freshness is solid. We tried the sashimi omakase, sashimi combo, all types of hand rolls, maki rolls, deep fried soft shell crab and even beef sukiyaki. Really enjoyed all sushi and sashimi plus the soft shell crab. Can't wait to bring my family here to try and share more rolls. Street parking can be challenging on a saturday night so come early to look for parking.

We are so relieved that Kuni-san's son-in-law has taken the helm at Kuni's. We were afraid that Kuni-san's retirement would be the end of the restaurant, but happily not so. Still, to my mind, this is the local Japanese restaurant most closely resembling sushi restaurants in Japan. Wide variety of nigiri and make sushi, but no silly stuff like lox-and-cream-cheese maki. Excellent sashimi and tempura and an imaginative bento box with either chicken or salmon teriyaki.

it's the most authentic Japanese food and the best sushi out of so many choices. it's about the food not the decor there. service is always great

We ate here for the first time and I think this will be our new favorite homestyle Japanese restaurant. Menu selection is good, has all of our favorite dishes, and prices are reasonable. We're longtime RengaTei customers but now that RT has slashed their menu, we went off in search of a new place. Good service and the timeless decor is cozy.

Here is a long time favorite for sushi in Evanston. It's been around here since the 1980s, so that's a long time for a restaurant. Kuni's Bistro looks like it may not have changed that much in that time. Even though it may look outdated, the food is still fresh. This is like getting old school sushi without all the fancy sauces and some other crazy stuff. A pretty good menu and the prices are a throwback as well, pretty cheap. It has a few Asian beers including Asahi, the most popular one in Japan according to the label. The sushi is the main thing though. It's about $5 for hand rolls. These are like typical sushi rolls except these aren't cut and are thicker. Kind of like a long triangle shape. We got the Avocado and the Veggie Hand Rolls, and these were a pretty good value. Liked these. Packed full of rice and vegetables, in a pretty tough seaweed wrap. Good tasting and good looking. There's also the more common types of rolls. Best place for getting classic styles of sushi without being fancy. It's been around a long time and it's easy to taste why, as well as the good prices. There's a pretty good amount of choices for vegans and vegetarians.

Absolutely amazing sushi!! Such a great spot. Friendly and helpful staff, nice setting, and the food was incredible especially given the VERY reasonable prices!! Would 10/10 recommend to anyone in the area or visiting!
