Don't go here ... Low grade beef meat. I had to return all my food. Super disappointed. Everything tasted off , nothing seemed fresh or safe to eat. The crab Rangoon was dry and sweet sauce tasted off like perfumey... I don't want to eat low grade meat. So ya won't be returning. Sucks bc I think years ago this place was actually decent. Not sure if same management or what hapnd but please upgrade ur food.

Peppercorns Kitchen is my favorite restaurant in Evanston! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The service is friendly and attentive. The menu offers a good variety of authentic and fresh Chinese dishes at reasonable prices. Would highly recommend the dan dan noodles. It is a must try for anyone looking for a good Chinese restaurant.

Warning! Waiters will hound you for tips. When I dined here, the waiter did not serve me warmly. The waiter just brought the tableware that was supposed to be on the table and he called it service? There was no service with a smile, no hospitality, and when I didn't tip the poor waiter when I paid, he grimaced and questioned me: why didn't you tip him? He relies on this for survival.

Firstly, the issue of waiters' wages should be discussed with the boss. This conflict should not be passed on to the guest. Secondly, the waiter had such a bad attitude that I thought he was going to hit me. In the end I will not be returning to this restaurant and I will tell all my friends in Evanston about the controversy over tipping today. The food at this restaurant is good, it's just the service that sucks. (ps: the male waiter was very tall and dark skinned, kind of Asian. I wish him to be more professional and welcoming in the future.)

Very terrible experience, we ordered three dishes and had to wait for 40minutes to get our food despite the fact that there are only 4 tables of people in the restaurant

The Asian waitress was extremely rude (very straight forward and clownish discrimination against us)!!! Will never come back to this place ever again and would not recommend

It had tasty food, but we were persistently bothered by a fly around our food. The tomato and egg turned out to be it favorite. See review of other dishes in the photos. Staff was okay. New waiter, so can't blame him for errors, but the guy who came to recheck our order (and correct new guy's error) was a bit curt.

I love spicy, I love peppercorns, this place satisfies my tastebuds in every ways! Any of their dishes that has peppercorns are amazingly delicious, I specifically like their cabbage, boiling fish slices, and mapo tofu.

Unfortunately their appetizers are pretty mediocre. Also, this isn’t a good place to visit if you do not enjoy spicy food, since I find any dishes that aren’t spicy are meh.

Regardless, as long as t

Hot and sour soup was really thin, was not hot (temperature OR spice level); oily, and devoid of flavor. Sparse tofu, carrots, etc. Mongolian beef was more onions than beef, and the beef was very fatty. Everything smelled and tasted like old oil. This was a take out order. Had I ordered in, I would have sent it all back. Disappointing.

The vegetable fried rice is so good! You can choose your level of spiciness for most dishes.

Vegetarian options: Some of the vegetarian entrees have pork listed as an ingredient so be careful when ordering.

My party of five were seated fast, the table was clean, we ordered the Mongolian beef, Curry beef, combination rice, spring rolls, the orange chicken and they jasmine green tea (came in pot) , they were all super fresh and delicious, the staff gave the check as soon as we were done, they were also very nice and welcoming. The best thing about this place is that it isn’t that expensive. I really can’t wait to come back here!

Kid-friendliness: In my party there was an 11 year old kid and they really enjoyed the experience at the restaurant.

Really good Chinese food. Quick Authentic and delicious. I recommend the fried short rib. That dish was amazing! The sautéed string beans were also fantastic. Also loved the quick service and clean, quiet atmosphere.

Went to dinner with a party of six and had a wonderful experience. The food is exceptional. It’s the most authentic Sichuan food outside of China. Highly recommend, all their dishes are delicious!
