OMG beware! I Just received a delivery order and I am still wondering what has happened to this restaurant. Potstickers were so over cooked and completely lacking flavor, because you know, they were dried out shells, with almost no filling. Yuck! And now, the chicken wings!!! Basically, fried bones, almost no meat, pedestrian sauce with no real spice. With so many great wing places...really??? Entree chicken with flat noodles, arrived in a huge foil pan, like you have seen at a child's Birthday party. Did not request family/party platter, will have to check.

Peppercorns was recommended to me by another fan of Chengdu Impression in Edgewater, which I think has excellent Sichuan food. I was hoping to find something similar in Evanston. Unfortunately, Peppercorns was a much more watered down version. Except for one dish, the green peppercorn fish. This was sufficiently fiery, green, and numbing... but didn't actually contain that much fish, and only had maybe one chopstickful of noodles. Otherwise... the eggplant with garlic sauce was as sweet as dessert, and the salted egg tofu was pleasant but a little bland, with random pieces of like, frozen carrot and corn thrown in there occasionally.

Unfortunately not as good as 3 years ago. Everything has changed - food, service, and atmosphere.

Unfortunately my negative review isn’t on the food— the food is great! & for the most part, the service is wonderful. However the waitress we had this past Saturday evening 1/20, was extremely rude and visibly miserable— I hope she realizes she is working in a service industry job and you should probably be polite to the tables you are serving. I believe in tipping well especially if the service is great, however I considered not tipping anything for this girl who was so rude! While bringing our food to the table, my partner asked a simple question “hey, does this come with rice?” & as she was walking away under her breath she says “yup, well I only have 2 hands.” Okay… and you shouldn’t have a job. She continued to walk around the restaurant huffing and puffing and rolling her eyes. I will be back because I like this place, but I’ll make sure to make it known I do not want this girl to serve my table. FYI she’s probably a college student and she has curly hair and a stank face.

Most authentic chinese food in Evanston. If you want orange chicken and beef with broccoli then go to a different place. Peppercorns tastes like my mother's cooking! The dandan noodles are a standout for me!

I was amazed to get this quality of food away Chinatown. They were also willing to make me stuff off menu. The flavors are pretty authentic. At least for a non Chinese Vegetarian ?The standout dishes for me are Scallions pancake, Mapo Tofu, Eggplant with Tofu, Silky Tofu in Salty Yolk sauce, Eggplant in Garlic sauce, Tomato and Eggs dish, Sauteed String Beans and Bok Choy with Garlic.

It was well organized and the service was great! The only downside was that there are not many vegetarian options (not even fried rice)I got the bok choy and mushroom and it was pretty good.

Legitimate Sichuan food! The usual mainstays were all mouth-numbing flavor bombs, but the surprise GEM was the Salted Crispy Tofu! (and I’m not even that big of a tofu fan… but it was delicious!)
