5 stars! I just had an amazing experience at this Japanese restaurant. The new Asian twist on classic dishes blew me away. The flavors were recognizable but with a fresh spin. The presentation was stunning and the cooking technique was on point. And the wine selection? Impressive! One of the best I've seen in a small restaurant. Can't wait to go back and try more!

The best place to eat in Evanston. We always take our friends from out of town here and they are impressed. Some from LA saying this is the best sushi they’ve ever had! What to order: ALL of the black rice rolls (Black Widow, Black Dragon, Black Hornet) are absolute perfection— even someone who doesn’t love sushi will be impressed. We love the creamy tom yum ramen and the fried rice (wagyu and shrimp are our favorites). All of the mocktails are also excellent. We’ve been coming here for over four years and the service is always extremely kind and attentive. Presentation is stunning.

Ramen is consistently great and good service for a solo diner. Would go back, when in the neighborhood.
What an incredible experience I had. Staffs and services are so kind and amazing. I have to stop here every time I am nearby Evanston. Japanese A5 Wagyu Fried Rice and the shrimp Pad Thai were ones of the best dishes I’ve ever had outside Thailand and in the U.S. Other dishes are so very delicious, fresh, and you can definitely tell they made it with care and great quality. Highly recommend for anyone. Thank you, Shinsen!
I had a really bad experience ordering through DoorDash. The merchant processed my order cancellation as a promotion instead of a refund, which resulted in me being overcharged by $30.
Very nice space, service was great (they gave some great suggestions) and the food is amazing! Looking forward to going back again.
One of the best restaurants in Evanston
Great Evanston lunch spot food is enjoyable.
We had a wonderful meal at this restaurant! I ordered the shoyu ramen, and the portion was generous enough that I had some left to take home. The pad see ew was absolutely delicious—my daughter said it was the best she’s ever had! My husband went for the tantanmen ramen, which was quite spicy, but the staff had warned us ahead of time and even offered modifications. He decided to stick with the spice level and still loved it.
Beyond the great food, it was the small touches that made our experience special. We enjoyed a lovely pot of tea, and the waitress kindly brought us tiny cookies to share. These thoughtful details, combined with the delicious meal, truly made a difference. We’ll definitely be back!
Food and prices suck. There is a massive places with better sushi for so much cheaper, spider sushi taste like plastic. California not bad, soups are dreadful. First and last time. Look around, there is better options.

the ramen was horrible. ? do not get the tantanmen ramen from here it tasted incredibly bitter. I don’t think they did recipe testing at all?? They need retaste majority of their menu because the shoyu ramen was bland as hell, the oysters were too sour and acidic, and tantanmen was just bad. I usually finish ramen because no ramen is THAT bad but I literally couldn’t finish and I did not want to take it home.
I was expecting the tantanmen to have layers of flavors but when I first tried it, all I tasted was spice then nothing. It just tastes spicy. No chicken flavor, no pork flavor, nothing.
Honestly just don’t come here. There are so many better ramen options in Evanston, like ton-ichi, Hokkaido, tomo. The food here is overpriced and underwhelming.

Excellent array of high-quality sashimi, especially the fatty tuna.

This place is great, some of the best sushi Ive had. The miso soup is great. It is a bit pricey but it's worth it if you want to treat yourself

The indoor and outdoor dining areas are comfortable and tidy, and the indoor space is quite nice. The outdoor space is the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.
The staff are all friendly and wonderful.
The food is simply perfect, with flavors that reminded me of my trips to Japan.
Dietary restrictions: The wait staff is knowledgeable about ingredients and the chef was able to ensure my meal was not contaminated with things that make me sick.

Overpriced and misleading. One piece of salmon sashimi for $8 bucks! This isn’t NYC and the food is average. Cucumber roles were inedible.
