Phenomenal food, that’s arguably the best in the north shore.

The soup and 1 salad is very good. The brisket sandwich so so. A little too heavy on the smoke in smoked. Corn bread muffin is the best I've had.

Rarely leaving reviews. However, once a month I want to get some good food, for the dinner, and chose this place this week. And well this is very bad, I got the sandwich and ribs. Sandwich was dry, the vegetables are not fresh, and in general it was not good. The ribs are just dry, they are not flavory enough to ignore the dryness of the meat. I are half of my order and just threw away leftovers. There are around 5 other places in the same area that have 10 times better food. I got delivery so rating only food quality, not aware of service or atmosphere. Summing up, if you are a meat lover avoid this place, I am not giving it second chance.

Gosh I’m so disappointed. I really want to support this place but the prices are darn near prohibitive. 17 dollars for a bowl of gumbo. 8 dollars for a baked sweet potato half the size of any sweet potato I’ve ever seen. I’ve been ordering from them for about a year but on several occasions I’ve felt that the food although very good did not justify the bill. Thanksgiving dinner was organized and very good but the cranberry sauce was some sort of soup and I had to throw it out. I couldn’t afford the way overpriced desserts. Tonight I got a bowl of gumbo, a sweet potato and corn muffin. $30. Sorry guys I so appreciate your community support and that you’re in my neighborhood but that’s a lot of money

I was very disappointed by my recent visit. $26 for a small sandwich, small mashed potatoes, and San Pellegrino soda. First, the mashed potatoes tasted old, and did not have a fresh taste. It was explained to me that this is how they are made in the South. I don't think so. The sandwich was surprisingly small, and I had hoped to have slices of brisket rather than a mishmash of tiny brisket leftover pieces with sauce. The meat itself tasted good, but there was too much sauce in the mix. If they aim to open a full-scale restaurant, they will need to improve. I will not be back. Although the personnel was very nice, they couldn't make up for the average food quality.

It’s pricey. I ordered chicken gumbo with added shrimp. See pic for size For this small bowl I was charged $22 dollars. Not sure if that is a fair price point for the quantity of food. I also ordered the black eyed peas. I was charged $6.00 for this small cup of beans. I’m sorry. This robbery to be charged these prices and the portions are extremely small. Don’t support this place. You’ll leave not full and will pay expensive prices for small portions. The problem with this place is portion sizes and prices. It’s better to just drive into the city to get more bang for your buck.

We decided to stop by and try out Soul & Smoke based on a referral, but I’ve got to say the best part of this experience was the service. The price was outrageous for the portion you receive,Not to the food was lacking in the flavor department. I guess I’ll stick to ole faithful the BBQ spot in Evanston, But unfortunately they’re not open on Monday.

Parking: Very congested area and difficult to find parking.

I met the owners when we were both doing appearances on a morning news show. I have lived in Evanston for over 30 years; and, shame on me, did not know about Soul & Smoke. I went there that afternoon and have been back 3 times! The herb roasted turkey dinner with all of the sides was phenomenal! I even got a beef brisket dunner for a friend who was celebrating Hanukkah. I am telling everyone about this! Look at the photos!

The smoked turkey we had from s&s was the best turkey I’ve had in my 70 years! Tender, moist and delicious. I don’t even usually like turkey. Well done! However, what was that gravy? Ugh. At any rate, we’ll be back.

I am a self-described BBQ snob and make it a point to travel to try all the BBQ restaurants where I live and visit. I have been to all the top BBQ restaurants in Texas, Memphis, Kansas City, and others. Soul & Smoke takes influences from all of these and more to make a unique product. I had the meat sampler which had brisket, rib tips, sausage, and pulled pork. Sausage was very flavorful. Pulled pork was good. Their moist brisket was excellent and is good enough to not need sauce. The rib tips is what really shines the most on the sampler - my family simply couldn’t get enough! The staff were extremely friendly and while they are currently building a new addition to the restaurant, the environment was still very good. I can confidently say that Soul & Smoke is one of the best BBQ restaurants in the Chicago metro area above Green Street, Smoque, and others.

Kid-friendliness: Restaurant provided Santa letters for the kids to write. They have coloring pages done by kids posted on the wall. Very friendly to kids.
