Would give 0 stars if I could. Ordered the ayce, only to find out that nigiri and rolls come buried in a block of rice that makes it hideously unappetising and bland. They then refuse to take any other orders until everything is finished and threaten to charge you for the remainders (including the mountain of rice). Had to push hard to make it an exception this time, but I don’t suspect they’ll allow it a second time.
I will say that the waiters tried their best to be accommodating, which I appreciate. But the restaurant seems to be run by scummy owners who’d do anything to make a profit.
I don’t ever plan to visit again and neither should you.

I use to love going to this place, I've taken so many friends and family, celebrated so many birthdays here, etc and one day I ordered Ubereats and this is how my food came... I called and the lady on the phone just started talking about how her containers are in a separate area in the back and to take it up with Ubereats... She then texted me a picture of their containers sitting on their counters... Still gross considering the bugs are INSIDE. SQUISHED AND ON THE SIDE OF THE CONTAINER. The reaction completely turned me off and she did follow up later and apologize for her reaction, but still really gross knowing this is how they sent the order off.. More crazy to me that there is multiple bugs... Ubereats total was $62 and they only partially refunded me which sucks, just sucked more knowing this was one of my favorite restaurants and the lady's reaction and talking about the containers just felt like I was being dismissed.

SERVICE
The staff was really attentive and friendly, which was the highlight of the experience. That said, some of the rules made dining here kind of frustrating. You can’t order more nigiri until the whole platter is finished, which doesn’t work well when you eat at a different pace or like different things than your dining partner. I also overheard another table being told they couldn’t split the bill across more than one credit card, which seems like an unnecessary hassle. On top of that, one of the sushi chefs kept staring at us the entire time, which was honestly uncomfortable. They also automatically add a 20% service fee to the bill, even for small parties. I normally tip at least 20% regardless, but having been a waitress my whole life, I really dislike when restaurants take that choice away.
FOOD
This is where things really fell short for me. The rolls just didn’t have much flavor... the shrimp was basically nonexistent (even in the shrimp tempura roll), and instead of making a crab salad, they just used imitation crab sticks. On top of that, there was way too much rice, which made it hard to enjoy the actual fish. The miso soup was lukewarm, and the hibachi was limited to one per table (no matter how many people you’re with). It was basically chicken or beef drowned in teriyaki sauce with a diabetes-friendly amount of rice. The one bright spot was the chicken karaage, which was at least palatable, but not something I’d go out of my way to order again.
VALUE
Lunch was $21.99 per person, which was more than the $19.99 price listed on their website. Drinks are $3.50 for a soft drink, and they’re Pepsi products (not even Coke). For hibachi, they also charge $6 if you want to take home what you can’t finish — which will mainly just be rice. Between the higher-than-advertised lunch price, the automatic 20% service fee, and the underwhelming food, the value just isn’t there.
OVERALL
While the staff was kind and attentive, the food and odd rules just didn’t make the experience enjoyable. The service kept this from being a 1–2 star review, but it’s not somewhere I’d choose to return.

I love Todoroki!!! I eat in the main room often, I get it from Uber eats, and I just had my birthday in the hibachi room. They never disappoint :) the staff are friendly and attentive, the prices are great, and the food is delicious! I highly recommend for any kind of occasion! A side note too: they were happy to accommodate vegan and vegetarian diets and were so kind :) they made my birthday so special!

My fiancé and I were very disappointed with our visit. From the start, the service was inattentive. Our waitress never checked in on us during the meal, did not provide refills, and I never received the salad that was supposed to come with my order.
When I ordered a Shirley Temple, it arrived only halfway filled, which set the tone for the rest of the evening. The hibachi experience itself was underwhelming. The rice, vegetables, and entrées all lacked flavor and seasoning. The food tasted bland and felt rushed, which is especially disappointing given the price point and expectations at a hibachi restaurant.
To make matters worse, we were seated in the middle between two tables, which meant my fiancé had to stare at the back of the cook the entire time rather than enjoy the performance. On top of that, the restaurant itself did not feel clean—the floor was slippery, almost as if there was oil on it, and the overall atmosphere was unkempt.
Overall, the service, seating, cleanliness, and food quality were well below standard. We left feeling dissatisfied and won’t be returning.

One of my favorite places to go in Evanston. Good food, great for family dinners or date night. Hibachi life is fun!! Check them out, kind of pricey so get the Groupon that's avail online. Food is fresh and delicious😋.
Update: so I called on a Monday to ensure I could hibachi dine in, the website implies seated by 10p and the young lady confirmed on the phone I arrived around 9:30-9:35p - there was a table in the middle of their hibachi experience and no one else. When we get there expecting to be seated we were told the hibachi dining was closed and offered hibachi to go. Absolutely not acceptable. My boyfriend was mad because I didn't make a fuss about it and left. I have reduced their service, this last experience was such a turn off. I will be going elsewhere for hibachi from now on. Don't lie to diners. Such a shame I really did like it here.

It’s completely unacceptable for a restaurant to allow guests—or employees—to play videos and games out loud without headphones while others are trying to enjoy their meals. During our visit, I had to ask the server to speak to a customer on the other side of the dining room who was blasting sound from his phone. The server’s response was simply that “the gentleman is a customer,” as though the rest of us weren’t.
Someone eventually asked him to turn it down, but as soon as they walked away, he turned the volume right back up. I’m not sure where this sense of entitlement comes from, but it’s disappointing that the restaurant allowed this behavior to continue unchecked.
To top it off, the server brought us carryout containers and the check without even asking if we were finished or wanted anything else, which felt dismissive and unprofessional.
Suffice it to say, we will not be dining at Todoroki Hibachi again.

Came in for hibachi on a weekday at 8:30pm and the place was completely empty. The chef was nice and the food was decent, but the lack of energy made it feel a bit sad. I remember this place being much livelier…. no idea what changed.
