My husband and I were big fans of Pizza D.O.C. in Lincoln Square years ago, and were sad to see it close. We were looking for place to get wood fired pizza for a family birthday dinner, and stumbled on Trattoria D.O.C. in Evanston. We had high expectations due to our love of their other restaurant. First, the pros: the grilled calamari was excellent- not rubbery and perfectly dressed with balsamic vinaigrette on a bed of greens and grape tomatoes. The Pappardelle Ai Funghi Porcini (creamy mushroom pasta) was heavenly- easily the best dish we ordered! Now for the “meh”: The fried calamari, ravioli, and pizzas were just okay. The veggie pizza we ordered needed quite a bit more time in the oven as the mushrooms were raw and the whole pizza was quite wet. The goat cheese and spinach pizza was good, but again, quite liquid- seems the oven may not have been hot enough. The carbonara was alright, but my husband’s homemade carbonara is better. The pasta with salmon and tomato vodka cream sauce was somewhat bland and the salmon was on the fishier tasting side. For dessert, our party of eight tried the Tiramisu, the molten chocolate cake, mango sorbetto, and chocolate & hazelnut gelato. All of it was pretty good. The tiramisu had amazing cream filling, but could’ve stood a bit more coffee & rum. If we were to return, we would be going back for the grilled calamari and the mushroom pasta- and we might do that. There were also a couple of salads on the menu that looked promising that we may try if we return. Overall, it was good, but not great. For the prices one generally pays for Italian fare, there are other spots I’d recommend over this one. The decor needs an update as well, but the staff was very friendly and attentive.
Great portion choices, amazing taste, hits the spot any time of day. The service was unmatched and we were able to come in close to closing and get seated and served incredibly quickly with FRESH food. Love the homemade pasta!

Always something good to eat. I usually get their fish special which changed weekly. Very nice selection and choose of side dishes too - they always offer rapini and broccolini in addition to the boring stuff (spinach LOL).
They make a nice wood fired pizzas that's thin crust. More like you would find in Roma than the VPN style pizza that you would find in Naples.
Reasonable prices so you can go any day of the week without feeling guilty.
Parking: Besides parking on the street at the meter there is a paid parking lot half a block west on the north side of the road.

I have been a customer of this restaurant for many many years and it’s time I wrote a review! Without question, they get five stars! I happen to really love their pizza which has a wonderful thin crust with just the right amount of sauce and cheese on it. I love a plain cheese pizza and with Trattorio DOC, it’s delicious!! The extra toppings are great too, but I prefer the simplicity. My other recommendation is their tiramisu, which is perfect!

Amazing restaurant to eat at and overall everything to the food and the service is amazing
Love this place! Came here once years ago and came back over the weekend and it’s still great now. We got one appetizer and two half orders of pasta for two people and it was the perfect amount (and very affordable). The porcini mushroom pasta was our favorite!

Excellent tiramisu! Best in the area.
The Orecchiette con Spinaci was excellent, as was the Affagoto for desert (vanilla gelato drowned in expresso). Attentive and friendly server. Good atmosphere for conversation. With street construction, parking is currently a mess (June 2024), but don't let that stop you from experiencing this fine restaurant.

This has become a venerable institution in Evanston and a coveted spot to enjoy a well prepared, delicious and unpretentious authentic Italian meal.
I'd like the management to consider posting a sign that within an hour of close, if you arrive, to have a 'late nite' menu to avoid patrons being disappointed, so that you can enjoy an appetizer with a glass of beverage bc the kitchen will close. It will improve everyone's experience.
It's charming with slightly dated decor, but you're there for the exquisite cuisine they prepare given they have abundant choices.

Excellent pizza- definitely make reservations- pizza was quick- and really reminded me of Tony’s Baltimore Grill in Atlantic City.
