Sushi was excellent - and thank goodness it was because the service was incredibly slow. My friend and I came here at 2pm on a Monday and waited more than 1 hour for 5 sushi rolls and miso soup. There were maybe 10 other patrons in the restaurant across 3 or 4 tables. No idea what the holdup was. Regardless of how good the food was, we will not return due to the slow service.

This was absolutely delicious!!! I ended up getting three plates of the yummy tatsu and it was so unbelievably good! The server gave us complementary, on the house pineapple as a thank you for how much food we ordered, but it was that good! I didn't want to stop ordering! We will be back!!!

Delicious Food, Quaint Atmosphere—Worth the Visit! ★★★★
I recently dined at Sushi Tatsu and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I ordered three servings of tuna sashimi, which came as 12 pieces of fresh, well-cut tuna. The tuna was cold (but not frozen), full of flavor, and had a great color—definitely 5-star quality. I also had a spicy salmon roll, which tasted fantastic. Though the roll was a bit loosely wrapped, the quality of the salmon was perfect. The miso soup that came with it was flavorful and a nice touch.
Sushi Tatsu is run by an older couple who handle everything themselves, so don't expect quick service. However, they make up for it with excellent hospitality—my water was refilled promptly, the order was taken quickly, and the service was incredibly kind and attentive.
The only downside is the atmosphere, which I’d give 3 stars. The interior is a bit grungy and outdated, with cardboard in the windows, worn-out chairs, and simple booth seating. However, if you’re someone who appreciates supporting small businesses with fantastic food at a good price, this is the place to go. It’s not about the decor; it’s about quality sushi, and Sushi Tatsu delivers. If I’m back in Illinois, I’ll definitely be stopping by again!
Raw steak in the fried rice (didn't ask how we wanted it cooked, served a cheap cut cooked blue rare), cold rice, took 30 minutes to take our order, only 2 other tables so not sure what the disconnect was here. Food took another 30 minutes to come out. Forgot my unagi nigiri. I contemplated even posting this because I really wanted to like this place, and decided to take my time really thinking about it because I don't like to post negative reviews, but I'm also 99% sure this place gave me food poisoning. Within hours of returning home, I experienced some of the worst fever, cold chills, diarrhea, and vomiting episodes that I've ever had in my life. We will never be back. I hope sharing my experience will save others in the future from the same problems.
